Looking for research assistant

Yeah, I know this is a long shot, but I am looking for a person that is knows how to research for one of my companies. Like get obsessive about it. Fact checking, collating, analyzing.

Location is not a factor, and you are paid with real, and I mean real money, not any of this internet bux thing. Long term, part time.

Please don't make me post this at the 'dope. Thanks in advance.

Research what? And what tools are available? Like just google, or would there be journal subscriptions?

Is this a full-time or a part-time gig? How much training will you provide?

Yeah, I know how to research, but I doubt you want to know the best way to safely, robustly, and inexpensively mass produce small molecules.

Yes, these questions.

I'm obsessive and my undergrad was literally nothing but research (history). JSTOR and I are old friends.

I'm on the process of needing some industry research on the roofing industry. (super sexy, I know.) I also need some demographic research of potential customers, contractors, and local markets. There would also be some research of online aggregators and home service providers. The bulk of this would need to be completed by 10/19, but there would be ongoing part time for at least a year. The information would need to be presented in an easy to digest format, including graphs, etc.

I've never had one, nor utilised one, so I'm a little ignorant about the process, etc.

Also, help!

Wow. I'm probably not your guy for this gig but I looked up some roofing stats nonetheless because why thee heck not. Seriously, 88% of your industry is replacement? That's 15-20 points higher than I'd have guessed.

It would be helpful if you had a few examples of the questions you want answered. Also, I would look to the nearest college or university. Some of them have co-op job programs where qualified 3rd and 4th year students earn work experience and money. I was originally thinking of a statistics student, but I think there are a few majors in political science that may be more directly related. The co-op office can help you with that too, if there is one.

How many single family houses in US.
How many roofs replaced every year?
How many due to storm damage?
Average price, etc.

It goes much deeper, but there's a start

Some of that information may be available from the department of energy's building technology office. They're a wealth of info.

How many single family houses in US. As of 2000, 69,865,957 single family homes comprising 60.3% of all homes. US Census Bureau

How many roofs replaced every year? "On average, about 7 percent re-roof each year. Over 5 million new roofs are installed each year" RoofingContractor.com

How many due to storm damage? Over 500,000. Hail Damage claims from 2013 - 2015

Average price $4700 - $9000, HomeAdvisor.com (Multiple sites with similar numbers)

I got this from Google in about 10 minutes - the storm damage question was the only one that took multiple searches. Research ain't what it used to be.

You're suggesting she should do it herself? I think she already has a day job.

If you really need it done in less than two weeks, I don't think a co-op student is going to be a good fit. It's not enough to fill up a whole semester full time. Sorry, wasn't thinking it through.

Just trying to point out that this gig doesn't really require a lot of talent or experience. Almost anyone with a little spare time could take care of it.

Not volunteering, though.

I suspect the flat roofs on businesses and such are responsible for a lot of that. (Just yesterday I was in a grocery that was built just a year back. The ceiling tiles in one area already showed signs of water damage.)

I think Jag is right: hire a local college student to do the work. You get the research you need, and the student gets work experience and a reference. It's a win-win.

Yeah, but a college kid is not going to be able to drop everything for the next two weeks. They are going to have a load of other classes that won't wait. It's asking a lot for a kid to drop out of school for a semester for a gig like that.

None of this is onerous brain surgery, you guys just asked for an overview of some of the questions. Jag is right, I'm extremely busy. I've had a couple good candidates pop up, I'll pull the trigger probably tomorrow, time is running out.

I could probably do it, except for the part about being sad and never knowing when I will have to drop everything and rush off to some medical place. Any time you have a research need with a terribly casual schedule and no deadline at all, let me know. I like graphs.

One of your own has stepped up to the plate. It appears to be a good fit. I appreciate all the interest. No better place to find an Internet savvy, inquisitive, intelligent soul that asks all the right questions than here.

Everything is still attached, some feeling had come back. Ring finger sticks out straight, but not terribly noticeable. Has pretty much full function. Thanks for remembering

Yay about his hand.

Your worry must have affected your mind. You seem to be engaging in some sort of socially-oriented hallucinations. Inquisitive - many would say downright nosy. Savvy, well, if you are talking about blowing things up, sure. Intelligent? Seriously now. There are people here who prefer bread to pizza.
