That is (pretty close to) my dream job! Congrats to her!
My computer has been acting weird, in a weird way, as in, it's OK for 2 hours and then gets the vapors, or just won't run Program A but will run the more demanding Program B . . . and it changes day to day. This is very suspect as it's a DAMN MACHINE and should be having the Same Problem Until That Problem is Repaired, and not randomly get better. So, Some poor soul needed rent money and sold me an old (14 r2) Alienware for a touch more than half what it would (does) retail for. I didn't bargain as the price was already good. It's lovely. It's superheavy and really only portable in the sense that it can be carried from the bed to the couch. I can afford it with a little bill-juggling. Dangerous, but took the risk because I have wanted an alienware for so long and they are soooo spensive. Even this is a bit pricey for me. It may be old, but it is still faster and has better graphics than Ol' Blue. After I transfer /store everything I may try messing about with my other laptop, with the whole SSD and Linux thing I am now contemplating. Unless I open it up and it is covered in bees. |

Just getting back from my date and we had to cut it short because neither one of us was dressed properly for the weather. It was too cold while we were in the park so we will have to set up another date for next week

The news made it seem like it was going to be a spring day and it was so damm chilly. She had on a long sleeve shirt with a vest and I had on a short sleeve short with a spring jacket.

I was offered a job with a different federal agency and I accepted. It's a promotion and I am over the moon to finally be getting out of my current place of employment.
They still have to work out an on-boarding date with my current boss, but they want me to start the 14th of next month. My boss was out yesterday, so they couldn't contact him and I am on pins and needles because I just want this all to be done. I have to clear the installation and that takes time, plus box up my stuff and files. I have to say am both elated and anxious. My whole career (nearly 36 years) has been as a civilian Department of Defense employee. My new position is at USDA-Rural Development. It's kind of bittersweet, because, for all my bitching, I really am proud of my service and contributions to DoD. I didn't wear the uniform, but the work I have done in all my various positions have done much to make service members lives, the installation or even the MTF, a little better. The anxiety stems from the fact that I will be TOTALLY out of my element. No military connection, no military acronyms, and, finally, I'm used to knowing my shit, where the "bodies are buried", and historical context. That's all out the window. Oh well; there is no growth without discomfort. Wish me luck! |

I want a new job. I don't hate the one I have, but enrollment is down and budget cuts mean I'm gong from teaching 10 credits (too much) this term to 4 credits (too little) next term.
I assume we'll survive because we always have, but I am looking forward to a steady and reliable income, someday. |

OMG, taters, this is HUGE! Many congrats and hoorays and don't you EVEN sweat it, you're a smart cookie with about two tons of federal experience and that works no matter where you put it down. I'm so glad you're getting out of that toxic environment and into a good challenge that also pays better. Yay you!

Thanks. They still haven't contacted my boss, but I hope they contact him today or tomorrow.
They're doing the background check on me, but it should all be good since I'm already a Federal employee. Apparently, even though I already have a NACI, they still have to complete one from their org. |

I have a so-called reputation because I don't suffer fools gladly; I am honest and direct, and I don't put up with BS. I am professional and polite. But, because I had the nerve to stand up to him, I am "difficult". Whatever, this is raves and I don't want it going off-track. Besides, I'm FREE!!!!! Free at last!!! |

@taters, your experience working in the Fed will ease right over to your new division. The skills you developed and applied with serve you well, and by now you know how to pick up both the details and the dirt in a Fed dept, so while it will be a better place to work, it won't be like starting over. Plus, your DoD work will live on, and now you can improve a different part of the USofA.
No fear. |

Thanks again, everyone. I am excited about the programs they have in Rural Development, although I don't know exactly what programs they'll have me working analyses on. There's more involved, but it all sounds new and I need that.

One positive thing I can say before March comes to a close is I return back to work on Monday after being out on medical leave since Jan 30th. I have my strength back and all set to return on Monday.

Then again, that commute is a little bit backwards so maybe less traffic?

Maybe on the way down there, once I clear JBLM. On the way home, once I hit JBLM traffic, it'll be the same as always. But, it doesn't bother me. There's traffic everywhere now, and there is no avoiding it.

That's the truth! Seattle is even more squished between the mountains and the sea with even fewer back ways around it than we have here in Portland--I don't think I could handle living up there, it's just way too big city for me.

went to the hot springs today and the pool was awesome. then a friend bought me lunch.
I got a couple bags worth at Trader Joes and, ignoring all the salad fixings, I had pure carbs for supper. zzzzzzzz. ![]() |

We have a kid who is eligible for special ed AND eligible for accelerated learning. We got the letter on Friday that they think Little Bean should be in the latter. We think he should do it and the added challenge will help with the behavioral stuff.

I'll be taking 512 to I-5 to 101. If something happens where I5 is shut down, I'll have to take the back way through Yelm, Rainier, etc, but let's hope that's not a necessity. It is a raise and promotion, but the real impetus is that I will be out of this office, it will be all new, and I'll learn something new. |

We took the scenic route home through Yelm last year. We were coming from Little Creek after a concert weekend. I hadn't been to Yelm in probably 15 years. You couldn't have told me it was the same city.
