Urbanredneck is ANGRY that the House passed the coronavirus relief bill with a voice vote, because he wants to know how everyone voted. He brushes off suggestions that he contact his representative's office, insisting that they'll lie about it.

He won't explain why, exactly, this pisses him off, but I'm guessing he's worried that "those people" might benefit.

From a thread about the origin of the 'Karen' meme.

Also, 'Scumbag Steve' is really an examination of race and class, serving as a damning indictment of post-industrial complacency.

I like Manda Jo, but she is utterly naive in this thread about the corona virus. (And Dinsdale is a fucking moron.)
I don't get it -- normally she shows a lot of common sense.

And Jesus Christ, he seems to think that "Congress" refers only to the House of Reps.

I haven't read the rest of the thread after my initial post because I figured I'd get a warning. Her waffling back and forth about should she or shouldn't she visit with her neighbor was ridiculous. NO! And just looking at the last page, she's talking out her ass about viral load. It's not what she thinks it is.

Stranger on a Train's post in that thread should be engraved on a 2x10 and used to thwonk people who keep trying to rationalize why they don't have to follow the social distancing guidelines.

Speaking as an immune compromised individual (I'm on Humira for RA) I DON'T want to end up on a ventilator fighting for my life because I picked up a bag of carrots at the store that some asymtomatic dumbfuck pawed all over because they went on a play date with their friend who wasn't sick (at the time) and couldn't possibly have cooties because "we came from the same germ pool."

Um Helena, ya know, I wished Ratty a HBD and she got boxed. If anyone has a BD today, and I wished them a happy BD, I'd feel terrible about them getting boxed too. So I'll wish everyone a happy birthday today and we can all get boxed together.

Yeah, I noticed that too. It seems like temporary insanity is a symptom of Covid-19, and it can strike whether you’re actually infected or not.

Thanks for the reminder, Sputty.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HELENA!

Me, I got boxed because it WAS my birthday, which it isn't now, but I'm liable to get boxed because it's Sputty's un-birthday or something.

If I stand 5.72 feet from a rabid rat for 3 minutes, am I safe? What about 8 minutes? What if I increase the distance to a full 6 feet?

See this is the problem. When social distancing first came out, it was in metric. Way too many millennials were confused by the 2 meter requirement and went to the beach where there were no parking meters just to be safe.

I am sure it was all very innocent. I mean it's not like they were trying to cleverly skirt the stay-at-home rule.

But have any of you noticed a similar thing where you live? I'm just wondering.

Happy Birthdays to Helena and Rat Diva, -- a bright spot in these crummy times!!!!

The people in that thread who are all, "I take risks all the time, I'm going crazy, I'll take the chance of catching it...blah blah blah...." I just want to grab them and shake them. (Dinsdale, madsircool, cmodes)

And is Dinsdale seriously arguing that, "well, I'm already exposed at work, what's a few more people?"

Thanks again, everyone. I completely missed my birthday boxing. Can I box twelve people for an hour?? I'm just kidding. I'm going to be a sap and choose not to box anyone. In these crazy times, GB is a (mostly) welcome escape and I don't want to take that away from people. Not even for twelve hours. Not even Carnal.

Props to the ever-reliable monstro and Francis Vaughan for their patient answers. Their words don’t seem to be sinking in, though.

Isolation does weird things to some people's heads. This is why I keep critters around, to stare at me accusingly if I do stuff that's too bizarre even for them.

It's really been rough on social people, like my aunt who just got home from a Florida trip right before the whole Stay Home for America thing started. She's normally out and around all day, but since she was on a plane coming from a state full of cooties she's doing the right thing and staying put. But I can tell she's slowly going crazy being stuck in the house all day by herself.

I'm very anti-social, but I've only been out of the house once since Mar 12th. I'm watching the birds in my backyard pick up nest building materials when I'm not pretending to work. I miss people face to face. We skype a lot (just voice or text) at work, but it's not the same. Good side of it - I'm still in my PJ's.

Day 13 of the staycation. Daughter #2 was tested for CV but won't know until Thursday. She's not showing any real signs of it other than feeling like crap and a slight cough. Thankfully, we all have face time.

Okay. How about a little guess the derper. Anyone?

From the "Chick" thread in ATMB.

Quote:
I associate the word with "pick up chicks," or as some 1950s word that now has a more misogynistic connotation. Like, by the 80s, I'd expect the character who said it in a movie to be a womanizer.

Similar terms are broad and bird from the UK.

In the OP's example, I'd've just used woman. Saying chick implied to me that she's only there for sex appeal.
Is I'd've a word?

https://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb...2&postcount=26

In case the derp is derping and it won't wake up.

This gave me an idea for an amusing (to me, at least) thread. Stay tuned.

If "I'd've" isn't a word, it should be. But since it's underlined in red here on my screen, The Geeb doesn't think it's a word. It doesn't seem to think "Geeb" is a word, either.
