I'm hoping that those of us who are first in line for the "jabs" will post their experiences for everyone else to read.

Meanwhile, here's a little I copied from CNN to help answer some questions about the 2 major players. (Assuming Moderna gets the approval this week)

Based on the numbers of doses to be produced for US to buy, I expect to get my first Moderna shots starting in late April or May.

The Pfizer Shots will only be for 50 million people I believe, but Moderna will be for 250 million.

I saw last night that the bottles being shipped by Pfizer are "overfilled." Meaning that instead of 5 doses per bottle, they can get 6 or 7. FDA gave approval to use the overfill, so the available amount is 40% more than what was originally reported. Good news.

Does anyone know what the procedure is to getting a place in the line? Does your MD call you and schedule it, do you just go to the pharmacy and request it? A mass cattle call? What's next for us in this very long line?

Are you general public like me or do you somehow qualify for higher priority.

Various medical conditions, Over 65, in the medical profession, First Responders and then necessary workers (however they're defined) will all take priority over the General Public.

If you're General Public, don't expect your first shot until at least April.
Try contacting your Doctor & your Pharmacy about it though in January, that may help you get in line if you will.

Once all of the medical professionals and first responders get it, it will go to the general public starting with the elderly and maybe people with a doctor certified autoimmune disorder. I assume that they will be given out at places like CVS or Wallgreens and you'll make an appointment online. In the beginning you'll have to prove that you are part of an eligible group by showing ID or a doctor's note.

I don't know about anyone else, but people in my failbook feed are freaking out about the new genetic variant of the coronavirus from Britain. So she can continue to listen to that stupidity. oh well, it just means she's going to have to stay socially isolated longer than i will...

Memories of the sixties? I got some for ya. One time there was a new vaccine that came out and they were talking about it on rhe news. So on Sunday, Mom and Dad made us put on nice clothes and piled the whole family into the car and we drove up to a local grade school - Gardenville. And we went into the gymnasium, where there were already lots of families. And we got in line and all us kids got the new vaccine, along with hundreds of other kids. What a waste of a Sunday! Like they couldn't have given it to us at school during the week and given us a break from penmanship lessons?

We got to miss class! We'd all stomp to the gym, joyful for the respite from listening to our teacher. When we'd get there, kids realized we were getting shots and some started crying. I didn't care. I remember one vaccination was something squirted on a sugar cube that we ate. That was definitely my favorite, I even remember it now! I asked my mom if she knew what that was, but she didn't even know we'd been given something orally.

I work for a Catholic hospital. We received an email from our big wigs assuring us that this was not true, and that the vaccines do not violate the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Healthcare Services. They are not requiring vaccination, but are urging us to voluntarily vaccinate. We started vaccinating Friday and are also a vaccination hub for other healthcare facilities in the area.

Be careful about that - no one knows yet whether the vaccines available prevent transmission in addition to preventing disease (although hopefully they do.) You might be able to have a subsymptomatic amount of virus in your system and transmit it to her even after you've been vaccinated:

Thanks. Gonna show it to her, tomorrow. I hope it helps... She's also focusing on the bad reactions. I told her that as soon as I come up in line, I'm gonna get it. She seems to be trying to get me to fear it as much as she does.

Hell, I almost died several times in the past two years. I can't POSSIBLY fear that vaccine as much as she does. In July of last year, I had one of those ventilators shoved down my throat, and a Foley catheter shoved up my dick, while still only being able to get almost all of my food or water through a fucking tube stuck through my abdominal wall into my stomach. This past year has been wonderful, as I get to eat more and more through my actual mouth. (I ditched the tube in my gut this past July... they wouldn't let me ditch it, unless I hadn't used it at all in the previous two months... I ate all my food through my mouth, and only used the tube to take my crushed up meds, since i had to flush the damn tube with a couple hundred milliliters of water every day, anyway.)

I'm up to 136 pounds as of to when i weighed myself, today. I don't look like a skeleton, anymore. i'm only 10 pounds down from the low end of what i should weigh. I don't think the possible bad reactions from that vaccine even get close to the bad reactions i had to, well, EVERYTHING they do to you when they treat you for cancer. I think ma is trying to make me as scared of it as she is. Ain't gonna work.

I've done a lot of reading on the side effects. There have been hundreds of thousands of vaccinations given and only a handful of severe side effects cases (anaphylaxis). I have to compare what's in the vaccine and what's in the dye used for abdominal CAT scans. I used to know. I've become progressively more allergic to it and need to take Benadryl when I have a scan. If necessary, I'll ask for injectable Benadryl at the same time. I don't care what it takes, I'm getting vaccinated.

Agreed. I'm not a health care practitioner, but from receiving a stack of vaccine handouts every time I took a kid for a routine scheduled vaccine, there's almost always some small percentage of the population that's going to be allergic to vaccine components. Fortunately, doctors know what those reactions look like and how to treat them.

Don't worry too much, they've said the first shot does give you some immunity, just not near the level you'll have after the second. To me, it's a little scary to test the vaccine on ALL our health care professionals. What if........

The really bad reactions - anaphylaxis - usually show up within 10 minutes of getting the shot. Some pamphlets even suggest patients stick around for 15 minutes to make sure they're not having a reaction. So if you get it at work, you're golden.

Other more minor reactions (aches, fever, etc.) show up later IME, but aren't usually life-threatening.

You are forgetting that the vaccines have, in fact, already undergone a good deal of testing.

My Niece's husband is a Fireman & EMT, he's scheduled for the 28th. 5 of the fireman in his house already caught COVID, so I'm very glad they recognized the needs of the Fireman to get it early.

One of my nieces works at a hospital in the Ozarks and she got the Pfizer vaccine (part 1) yesterday and says her arm hurts. A nephew in Indiana got the Moderna vaccine (part 1) last Thursday, and reports no pain. But he's literally almost twice her size, so she got a much larger dose, proportionally speaking.

Just in case anyone's wondering, it appears that the antibodies produced against non-variant COV-SARS-2 also are effective against the new mutation observed in the spike protein that the virus uses to gain access to cells. This means the vaccines, as well as convalescent sera therapies, will still be effective against this mutation in coronavirus:

If it is approved, US is signed up for 100 Million doses. So that would get us to 250 million total by June 30 it sounds like.

J&J's is a 1 shot vaccine, they expect to produce at least a billion doses total in 2021.
They're also running a second trial to observe the effectiveness of 2 doses.
TYPE: Muscle injection
STORAGE: Up to two years frozen at –4° F (–20° C), and up to three months refrigerated at 36–46° F (2–8° C).
VACCINE NAME: Ad26.COV2.S
