Only 1 more day's worth to put up tomorrow and that is only 16.
It will probably be late going up though. I'm helping my brother out tomorrow. |

Is Geogy Girl anywhere in the mix? Dancing to it in the living room with my mom is one of my first memories. <3
I hope all goes well with your brother, What Exit. |

Brother is doing pretty well. Update in the Unboxed thread.
All 256 polls are now up for round 1. 6 days to round 2. I get a break just in time for the Holiday Weekend. Sweet and unplanned. |

Great megapoll.
Today, I described it to a friend in Seattle who is probably 65-70 (I thought he might join) and he was disappointed to learn that the song he thought would win and the song he hoped would win are not even in the competition because they didn't chart (they might not have been released as singles.) He hoped that a 70s poll would be albums rather than singles because AOR became so strong. |

We could set a limit to what years to include. Say, a 70s-only rock album megapoll with certified platinum designations.

He is of the era for this poll; we've talked instrumentals of that time before (like The Rumble.) Over the phone, he told me he would've picked Judy in Disguise in the one matchup and Spinning Wheel in another. But he is a guitar rock guy: Zep, Who, Hendrix, etc. If it was (top rock albums of the 70s) then I think we would struggle to form up a 256 poll. I bet we would be picking albums because of one song from a one-hit wonder. |

And at 7PM Sundays, there's seven complete albums. All times are Central timezone. The station's in St.Louis, but they stream too. https://live.kshe95.com/listen/ |

I will send that on to him.
During our phone conversation, I mentioned that a Pittsburgh radio station is doing a Memorial Day 500 which used to be more common. That station is 102.5 which I immediately clarified as WDVE not KZOK 102.5. He should've recognized that because KZOK is in Seattle, where he lives, but he thought I was talking about a St. Louis station for some reason. I told him I didn't know any St. Louis stations. He grew up in Illinois between Chicago and St. Louis and used to get those stations. He might've been referring to your linked station. |

He responded that he thinks it was KXOK 630 AM which is now KYFI a Christian themed station.
That makes his confusion a bit more sensible KZOK vs KXOK. |

KXOK was the big top 40 station in the 60s. I didn't start listening to KSHE till maybe '68 or '69. Before that, it was KXOK, with Johnny Rabbitt and Bruno T. Grunion. And Chickenman: "He's everywhere! He's everywhere!". Haha.

First 12 for Round Two will be coming up in a little bit. So 12 a day for 10 days and a final 8 for the 11th. Full grid of winners from round 1.
I've come up with a metric for top winners using a combo of their votes and the difference between them and their round 1 opponents. So this helps put the apathy winners toward the bottom of round 2. Last edited by What Exit?; 3rd June 2021 at 06:27 AM. |

So I used a column to add the Votes for to the Vote Difference to make my new winners ranking. Then sort on that and use some other things as tie breakers for the order. This in theory will eliminate most of the songs very few cared about as they tended to get less votes. So they will match up to songs people liked overwhelmingly. Not 100% accurate but fairly good. Though it probably makes the first 2 days of round 2 boring. I won't use this method in later rounds of this poll. This was just for round 2. |

No surprises in the 2a portion of the 1st round. 12 good and popular songs crushed 12 songs that didn't deserve to be in the poll but were a little better than 12 bad songs.
There are 2 close polls in 2b. I just bumped them. Surfin' U.S.A.-1963 vs. Time Won't Let Me-1966 & Put a Little Love in Your Heart-1969 vs. Glad All Over-1964 ================================================== A little over half are posted. |

As there are only 8 polls left and none are close, I'm going to call it so I can start round 3.
So the Round 2 winners are:
It appears all songs with more than 1 entry are gone or down to 1 entry. Round 3 will be random matches! Last edited by What Exit?; 17th June 2021 at 06:18 AM. |

There are some where I voted for the loser, but for the most part I don't mind too much if the other song won. It was usually a good song too. A couple of songs that should have gone farther had the bad luck to come up against Beatles songs in this round, like Ain't Too Proud to Beg and Jumpin' Jack Flash. And Mr. Tambourine Man.
