Going back to Syracuse this summer

My family is going to Syracuse in July to lay my grandpa to rest with my grandmother who died in 1978 shortly after we moved to Georgia. I'm excited to show my kids where I spent my childhood. We moved to Georgia when I was 11. So I've been here 45 years.

Ok I looked on Google Maps street view. The house I lived in until I was in 3rd grade still looks the same. The house I lived in after that is completely different.

So the small town I grew up in has a Walmart now. So things will be different.

Did you ever go to the Gem Diner on Spencer street? I used to go there when I lived on Gifford street any time I got the munchies in the middle of the night. It's still there, but not open at 3am, anymore. Last time I was there, a couple of years ago, I met Daniel Baldwin (of the Baldwin brothers actors). He goes there, sometimes, these days. He lives somewhere around there.

Most of the houses on Salina Street north of Green Hills look the same as they did when I went to Nedrow every so often as a child to visit my grandparents. However, some of them have been torn down entirely, leaving only the vacant lot, and that is where I draw the line regarding whether a neighborhood is run down. If it weren't for that, I would be almost tempted to buy a house and move there since it would be cheap and nostalgic.
