I've done that, it's mega fun!

My rave is that we found a good Thai restaurant last night. The ambience is strictly Panda Express, but the food is very good and quite reasonably priced. Going back soon to try more of the menu. Plus they are very close (like within easy bicycle distance) and they do a lot of takeout.

Another rave. The guy living across the street is an elderly gentleman who is a wooden boat builder. Yesterday I needed some wood glue. (I know I have some, but have no idea which box it is in.) I went over and he loaned me some Elmer's and I glued up the project. He's a very friendly guy and currently has four boats he's built in the garage and driveway.

Yeah for Thai food (though I'm like 12 miles away from my favs).

The building I live in was built 100 years ago and was a long time school (over the years multiple grades, but mostly thought of as a high school), converted to senior housing over 20 years ago.

anyhow. they had a celebration, complete w/long speeches, a band, a slushie type food truck.

I talked to management before hand and we decided that it'd be cool for "the duck lady of Mason" to make an appearance.

so... I bought a t shirt that says "the duck lady". my sister had purchased for me last year a large bag made of fabric w/yellow rubber ducks all over it. Filled that w/about 200 ducks (most were mini patriotic ducks red blue or white w/stars on 'em) bought a bucket hat made of similar fabric to the bag (tho' the hat ducks wore sunglasses). used my walker which has 4 duck on 'em, wearing helmets w/propellers on 'em (they also make a noise when squeezed, so I can 'honk' to get people to move). I like to be subtle.

so, handed out probably 120 ducks to various folks who came (including the band), a couple of people shared w/me that they recognized me - one was the child of a grandma I've chatted w/over the months when I'm ducking kids at Big Boy, the other was a poll worker who asked if I was the person who handed out rubber ducks during the elections. yep, yep I am.

Thinking of doing another t shirt that says "Actually, I DO give a duck"

wring, that sounded like it was an absolute blast!!! you should TOTALLY do that t-shirt.

This is like.. small mini-mini-rant but HUGE rave! Day three (Technically four) of being a Michigander again and I finally overdid things a bit. Hit a wall, and today I absolutely cannot move. Ugh. I don't even care, though, because I did things that I was happy to do. Like go see most of my family, and see my friends that I haven't seen in years. It was an utter delight, and now that both parents have gone back to their homes (closest one is about three hours away), I can finally just take a few days and rest, before working more on unpacking boxes!

I am in pain but I am happy.

Went to the local waterpark today. The geezer rate is only $15 and you can bring in drinks (no glass or alcohol) and snacks. Did some water slides and played in the big wave pool. Found something good, the BBQ place (which we'd never tried before) was only $2 more than the shitty burger place for much better food. Had lots of sunscreen on and don't seem to have gotten burnt.

The only thing I didn't like was that they had de-tuned the big wave pool a bit. The waves used to be bigger and actually broke. Now you can just bob up and down. It was still fun, but used to be funner. A long time ago, before they did a big rebuild, the wave reflected off the curved back and all the reflections converged on the park logo to cause a big splash there. Now the waves just kind of peter out.

I buy some Lipton Green Tea Citrus in plastic bottles. Open them and drink 1/4-1/3, then top off with vodka. I've stood nest to a cop at a music festival drinking my iced tea and never a problem.

Bob and I went out to a pub trivia night on Sunday. We tied for first, then lost on the tie-break question. (Neither of us knows much about current music.) Still a second place in our very first pub quiz is not bad at all! We won a gift certificate for the pub/restaurant. And it was nice to be out and again.

Hasn't EVERYONE done that? Hell, I remember emptying out a cigarette, and filling it with the good stuff, smoking it, and seeing the cop look around to try to find who was smoking the MJ. I've certainly done that vodka trick. Routinely.

My favorite vodka "trick" is refilling an empty vodka bottle with water and keeping it in the refrigerator. I pull the bottle out midway through a party and walk out into the room, asking who wants a swig. Then I open the bottle and start chugging it. Someone always freaks out.

Mr Rebo got us tickets to go see Jackson Browne! Neither one of us have ever seen him live. The venue is fairly small, too. Can't wait! It's for Friday, July 21st.

We came through the derecho that rolled through the area yesterday without too much damage. Leaf, twig, and limb debris... one tree down, but it didn't do any damage to anything as it fell. Power was out for about 4 hours - our local REMC is the shit and the linemen/staff were working their butts off.

It was one hell of a storm. Woof.

That's pretty cool, I saw him with CSN back in the 90s but never on his own.

So between yesterday and today I knocked out several DIY projects of varying levels.

The dining room floor was worn down. So on my knees or butt, I sanded and then stained, buffed, buffed again, stained again buffed 3 more times and let dry overnight. This morning I waxed the areas with no shine left. While the floor is far from professional looking, it looks a lot better than it did.

I had a pin hole leak in the hot water pipe that ran through my shop to the kitchen & deep sink. It got worse of late, probably with the kitchen project. After getting some advice two days ago, I decide to just cut out the bad section and replace with a slip-on valve. The install went very smoothly this morning which is not something I often say with plumbing.

Finally I finished up a round tower for D&D. Made from an oatmeal container.

I unboxed the rest of our coffee cups today and just got them put away after running them in the dishwasher.

So lots of good stuff and flooping as of 2pm or so.
