3. I am not a prophet, but I would recommend you drink a cold beer and relax. Then write a poem to the poor people of Didyabringbeeralong over there in Australia, struggling with the driest year EVER, and the people of cooper pedi for having the best haircuts of the outback while living in holes.

These are just options mind you - may you have a better path.

My sincere apologies, and I realize my specialty is not for everyone.

I shall stay away from serious threads, it is a promise I hereby give you. I understand how my presence will make everyone look in wonder at me, and thereby lose track of whichever very serious subject they may be chatting about. Such a thing would be a shame.

But in the box as well? There are plenty of threads in the box that will need a burps commentary. Even Mr. Giraffe Man said so, limiting my burps to the box.

And in fact, I have kept this promise.

I don't often weigh in over here, but I am the opposite of ZeenerDiode on this. Not-thank you, hajario.

We had discussions long ago about Burpy and he has kept his Burps in the Box since then which was the agreement with Giraffe. As for this thread being "serious," it has a serious title. But before Burpy posted, almost all the serious content had been removed. By the OP.

And Rule 4 seems to go against his banning, too.

I can live with his banning, but I don't agree with it.

That's one of the perils of being boxed - if you're an ass in serious threads, you wind up in the box where we can poke sticks at you even if you want to have your very own serious threads. Can't respect others, don't get to carve out your own respectful places.

I wasn't defending, just clarifying. You kind of made it sound like the OP had a choice. I have no opinion on Burpy, I pretty much ignore the character.

I'm divided on this one. On the one hand I actually like the Burpy posts when they are in one of the silly threads. On the other hand, there is a time and place and Burpy had been warned multiple times to keep them out of serious discussions. (This includes the year he spent in the box when he first started.) So if it were up to me, I probably wouldn't have banned him, but he might have had to spend another year in the Box. But he had definitely not gotten the message to keep it out of serious threads and I can see getting tired of it.

So call me of two minds with no firm decision.

This seems to be settled but I'll belatedly let it be known that I'm against the Burpy banning here. Solfy articulates my thoughts better than I ever could.

But if we are going to set the precedent that posting dumb shit in a 'serious' Box thread can get you banned, at least this was a case of some really dumb shit in a really serious Box thread rather than some minor straw-that-broke-the-camel's-back edge case. So I'm still against it, but at least it has that going for it.

I get that The Box is open to abuse from everyone else. I think Quinn has shown regret over what he posted and anyone who feels he needs mocking has a right to do so. What burpy does is neither mocking nor respectful: it's just some idiot speaking idiotically over and over. Haj did right by giving the poster fair warning.

I just removed the "jackboots for Burpy" thread tag which is first of all offensive in a thread about anti-semitism even though it has drifted and also made by a known troll.

Hajario did give warning, so there is that, and I can respect the lines of 'not following mod warnings' or 'goading.'

The problems for why I originally posted are two:
1) The punishment for not following the warnings is typically being boxed, not being banned. Rule 4 in the GB FAQ agrees with that.
2) While it is true that The Mighty Quinn was also in the box and could only post here (including with any serious thread), The Mighty Quinn had already removed all of the serious content before Burpy's first posting in this thread. The time stamps are there, in each post. So I don't feel that Burpy was overwriting a serious thread as it was basically content-less by then.

Adding: You guys can type quickly, as hajario has posted while I was creating this response. Unless more posting/questioning arises from posters that would seem to require a response from me, I think I am gonna exit this thread.

My 2 cents: Burpy was asked to stop. He is already boxed, so boxing isn't on the table. And he did - purposely - act the asshole to Haj in a mod hat. Maybe suspending all his posting privileges for a month would have worked, but that's not my call.

While there is almost nothing more annoying than message board rules lawyering, sometimes one cannot help oneself. I couldn't find this when I was looking for it earlier:

6. Sock accounts (multiple accounts by the same person) are allowed but have no rights, i.e. may be banned or Boxed at will. They will typically be ignored if they don't cause problems. Sock accounts which are overly obnoxious or disruptive may lead to the banning of all of that person's accounts.

It's from the Forum Rules, which I forgot was a thing.

Anyway, I'm still against the Burpy banning, but — and I acknowledge that this is a ridiculous thing to be concerned about — finding this rule makes me much more at peace with it; it might as well have been written with Burpy's posts to this thread in mind. So farewell, Burpy. Truly the end of an era.

Actually it was “If you climb on a tiger’s back, don’t expect not to get bit”. I forgot to make tiger possessive. Good eye. Some people use the more crude, “fuck with the bull, get the horn”. Perhaps this is why biting a sleeping bear’s ass is not wise. Tim Allen taught us in “Wild Hogs” that you can slap a bull’s ass once and get away with it, but slapping it twice will get you chased.

Some people are less descriptive and caution against poking a hornet’s nest with a stick. Czarcasm once said “never put your Johnson in a crazy.” Although the latter doesn’t technically apply here, poking the hornet’ nest with your Johnson certainly does.

Don’t feel bad, Burpy will return as Fartso I suspect.

Here's the deal. Burpy is a character created by a regular poster here, not an actual developmentally disabled adult.

A few weeks ago it made an inane and insulting post in a very serious thread where someone opened up to us about their mental health struggles. I asked them to not post in serious threads ever again.

We had a serious (at the time) thread in the Box. They made another inane post. I let it go with a warning since it was in the Box. Then they made another post but it was kind of an apology so I let that go. Then they bumped the thread with another post and that flipped the switch. They were being an asshole and that character lost their privileges here. Permanently.
