Among the swing states you mention Arizona, Wisconsin, Georgia, North Carolina and New Hampshire all have BOTH houses of their state legislatures controlled by Republicans. (Additionally, Georgia and New Hampshire also have Republican Governors.) Some R-controlled legislatures may exercise their "right" to override the balloting and appoint whatever electors they choose.

PA governor Josh Shapiro was our attorney general in 2020. I'm not worried about any electoral shenanigans here. Naturally, there still is a towering list of things I AM worried about, so it's good to have one less

None of the swing states succeeded in getting the state government to endorse an alternate slate in 2020. (Efforts were made in Georgia and Arizona but key officials maintained integrity.)

But we cannot extrapolate that outcome to 2024. Many Republicans with integrity have been replaced with MAGA Stop-the-Steal goons. Several Republicans who were initially aghast at the J6 Insurrection, are now strongly endorsing Trump and his Stolen-Election rhetoric. The Election will be VERY close. Even a single state that rejects ballot counts to certify an alternate elector slate may easily be enough to swing the Election. Litigation would toss the decision to the House or to SCOTUS.

I think we safely can. Both Georgia and Arizona have indicted those who choose to cheat the voters with such a scam.

But yep, it’s scary how many trumpanzees now have their noses up old 34/45’s ass. Truly scary.

the fantasy of what rump says is well explained in the podcast Shrinking Trump which spells out exactly what we all need to know.

the paranoid, racist nonsense a chunk of this country believes comes straight from the orange asshole's face and just get repeated and repeated.

so The Truth needs to be repeated and repeated, as well.

At some point the blind, unreasonable hatred between tribes will have to be addressed. Many (like that certain troll) believe it will take a civil war; I believe the majority of our population do not want that. For me, the irrational desire of so-called patriots pledging allegiance to Russia before accepting compromises is dangerous and needs addressing first.

I just listened to the podcast Jackie posted. I totally agree, trump needs to be called a convicted felon over and over to erase his claim of a witch hunt. We need to all fly flags with 34 on them.

I doubt the true majority of the country wanted the last civil war, but got one anyway. Ordinary people don't get to vote on whether violent conflict breaks out or not - permission isn't typically requested.

I hope everyone is familiar with John Gartner and Harry Segal, the two psychologists who do the podcast. They have been talking about rump's cognitive decline for years.

Their schemes were criminal because of a complicated conspiracy to fraudulently push invalid election results with the fake electors scheme. However, it's probably not necessary to go that far. All that would really have to happen is for multiple election boards, secretaries of state, or other officials involved in elections to refuse certification of local/state results. No fraud required, just 'concerns' and let the courts - and Congress - sort it out. MAGA election deniers 'went there' because none of the election officials could bring themselves to actually disenfranchise thousands of voters in their state. This time around, I wouldn't count on that kind of integrity as a given.

I’m wondering about why or if I’m suppose to give a shit about Hunter Biden’s current legal troubles? Honestly, I couldn’t care less, yet the press and the Repugs are treating it like it’s another celebrity murder trial. Does anyone care if he’s a drug addict? To me, the press needs to get a hobby.

Oh, and I could care less about the results.

My 2 cents.

Of course gopers are drooling over Hunter's trial. They know their Fox-y Friends will spend every episode detailing and analyzing it, and reminding their dimwitted audience that THIS IS BIDEN'S SON, so it equals OR TRUMPS whatever the ex-prez did or did not do.

Looks like the secret service can’t avoid serving a little jail time, one way or the other. From google.

The United States Secret Service provides 24/7 protection for the wives and kids of the U.S. president and vice president, including their adult children, and the Trump offspring have been no exception.

Looks like Hunter and hopefully Donald might have company.

Aren't these the same people who are claiming that Biden is a criminal mastermind, and at the same time hopelessly senile and incompetent?

Yes. And they also claim that the J6 insurrectionists were Antifa and actors hired by Soros who should be locked up ... and they are also harmless tourists who are being held as hotages but should be acclaimed as heroes.

I don't watch Fox. Am I correct that Hunter is charged with illegal gun possession? If the QOPAnon Ilk weren't hypocrites they'd be rooting for Hunter's 2nd Amendment rights.

Hunter is charged with checking the No box on the “Are you addicted to any drugs” question when buying a firearm. He did so when we was “addicted” to a drug. They claim. His ex wife and his brother’s widow are testifying against him. Apparently neither is happy with him.

Also his laptop is making a comeback. there are national secrets, many small children as well as an evil genie hidden inside it. They just can’t find any of them.

Damn. What a time for my internet to have gone out. Just restored yesterday evening, it went out just before the GUILTY, GUILTY, GUILTY! verdict came down, so I'm catching up on what I missed. Anyway, this is the only post I want to comment on where my comment would not be a week late...

He's not a troll, IMNSHO, but rather fancies himself a Cassandra.

Unlike the mythological Cassandra, however, he's not always right about his prophecies, but rather, FAR more often wrong than right. He doesn't even make what chance, alone, would predict. But he conveniently forgets his misses (probably due to over-consumption of whatever Japanese beer he's named himself after in his current incarnation), and so, he convinces himself that he's a voice crying out in the wilderness, warning people of true impending disasters, only to be ignored. He never gets it through his head that he's ignored, NOT because he's got Cassandra's curse from Apollo, but rather because he's got a worse batting average than the worst batter in the MLB.

ETA: Although Wiki has 'modern usage' wrong. It's most commonly used, not to describe people whose accurate predictions are not believed, but to describe people like the (non-)troll in question, who just believe that they are always accurate in their predictions of doom that are ignored. They are almost all deluding themselves about their accuracy, but everyone else knows that the only predictions they make that are worth a damn are ones everyone else can also see coming. The ones they ignore, they ignore because he's no more likely to be right about it than they are, and so just as worthless as their own predictions.

[bold added]

I can't let this bit of idiocy go, unaddressed. The SCOTUS has NO constitutional role in deciding elections. Contrary to popular belief, the SCOTUS did NOT 'decide' the 2000 election with Bush v. Gore. They were not asked to decide the election. What actually happened is that the count said Bush won (barely). Gore got 1 or more (I can't be arsed to look up the details) automatic recounts, by Florida law, because it was as close as it was. Then he had a number of optional recounts, which option he exercised, and lost. When those didn't go his way, he brought it to the Florida courts to ask for more. They were granted (arguably, in violation of Florida election laws, but whatever). He lost those, then asked for more recounts. The Florida top court eventually said 'No. We've already given you more recounts than the law requires, or allows for.' THEN he brought it to the SC. The decision was NOT 'Bush will be president', it was, rather, 'No. We are not going to over-rule the Florida courts.' The dissents were more politically motivated legal bullshit than the majority decision.

Effectively, it made Bush II president, yes, but they were not tasked with deciding the election, they were only tasked with deciding whether or not to overrule a state court on a constitutionally purely state matter, and declined to do so. They did NOT 'decide' that election. They were never tasked with that decision. The recounts Gore wrangled out of the Florida courts decided that. Anyone who says otherwise is a fucking moron, spouting partisan bullshit. Take that opinion as you will about my opinion of you, if you're spewing that bullshit.

Helpful hint. That opinion isn't good, but it's well deserved. Contempt would be a rather mild term.

Okay, the rules for the upcoming POTUS debate are agreed to.
“Biden and Trump campaigns agreed to mic muting, podiums among rules for upcoming CNN debate”
The muted mic is wonderful. The trumpanzee can’t shut up when the other is talking. The trumpanzee can’t stay on script even with notes, lord knows what will happen now without notes. As mush as looking at him sours my stomach, I’m going to watch this one. The mic muting, that’s going to result in comedy gold.

Let's just hope that the hot mic will stlll be being recorded so there's a recording to go along with the video of him dancing around like a monkey, when he can't try to out-shout Joe...

The good part starts at 45 seconds:

Rules provide for 2 breaks, but neither side will be allowed to talk with their candidate. So butterbutt will have to change his own diaper.

Well, I guess that settles that. (From Sputnik's post in other thread)

Transcription, for those who would rather not look at that ass monkey, and spoilered for those who would rather not soil their retina:

After telling the crowd he was going to end “the electric,” Trump started describing a visit he made to a boat company in South Carolina.

Beautiful company, beautiful, guy’s been doing it for 50 years, sells hundreds of boats, they use Mercury engines, they want to take that out, they want to make it all-electric, I asked, “How is it?” He said, ‘It’s a problem, sir, they want us to make all electric boats, the problem is, the boat is so heavy, it can’t float.’ I said, ‘that sounds like a problem.’ He said, ‘also it can’t go fast because of the weight, and they want to now have a 50 mile or 70 mile radius, you have to go out 70 miles before you can really start the boat up, and you go out at two knots, that’s essentially almost like two miles an hour.’ I said, ‘How long does it take you to get out there?’ He said, ‘many hours, and then you’re allowed to go around for ten minutes, and then you have to come back, because the battery only lasts a very short period of time.’ So I said, ‘let me ask you a question,’ and he said, 'nobody has ever asked this question,’ and it must because of MIT, my relationship to MIT. ‘Very smart,’ he goes. I say, ‘What would happen if the boat sank from its weight, and you’re in the boat, and you have this tremendously powerful battery, and the battery’s now under water, and there’s a shark that’s approximately 10 yards over there — by the way, a lot of shark attacks lately, do you notice that? Lotta shark attacks — I watched some guys justifying it today, ‘well they weren’t really that angry, they bit off the young lady’s leg because of the fact that they were, they were … not hungry but they misunderstood who she was.’ These people are crazy.’ He said, ‘there’s no problem with sharks, they just didn’t really understand a young woman swimming,’ No, really got decimated and other people too, a lot of shark attacks, so I said, ‘there’s a shark 10 yards away from the boat, 10 yards, or here. Do I get electrocuted if the boat is sinking, water goes over the battery, the boat is sinking? Do I stay on top of the boat and get electrocuted or do I jump over by the shark and not get electrocuted?’ Because I will tell you, he didn’t know the answer, he said, ‘you know, nobody’s ever asked me that question.’ I said, ‘I think it’s a good question. I think there’s a lot of electric current coming through that water.’ But you know what I’d do if there was a shark or you get electrocuted? I’ll take electrocution every single time. I’m not getting near the shark. So we’re going to end that, we’re going to end it for boats, we’re going to end it for trucks.

I only made it halfway through before the stupid got too burning. Maybe I'll have another go at it later.

Ouch. And about half of US voters hear that and think "that's the one I want for president." Ouchouchouch.

Yeah, anyone catch John Oliver last night, with the Project 2025 report and the footage of Trump calling any American he doesn't like "vermin?" Got some big Nuremburg flashbacks off that, I can tell you.

I know there's no turning of the MAGAnuts, but lately there have been reports of political and religious conservatives jumping off the Trumperville Trolley following his felony convictions. It's unclear if it means they'll vote for Biden or just sit out this election cycle. I'll be happy with the latter.

From MSNBC.

Former White House communications director Alyssa Farah Griffin said in a Friday interview with Mediaite that former President Trump talked about executing people multiple times at White House meetings.

Keeping him under control must be a full time job.

Recently wandered into the Trump-Biden poop wars.

As we all know, Trump has a reputation for soiling himself literally as well as figuratively. The famous photo of him walking around a golf green with a brown smear on the seat of his white trousers is fake, but there are many stories from people in a position to know about Trump's habitual sour smell, frequent flatulence, and adult diapers. None of these have been definitely confirmed as true, but they can't be wholly dismissed either.

The Trumpers, stung, have begun to fight back by concocting and spreading rumors about Biden. One story, subsequently debunked, claimed Biden pooped his pants at the Vatican and his meeting with the Pope had to be delayed until he could run to his hotel and clean up. Another story involved a photo taken of Biden lowering himself into a chair; they cropped out the chair and claimed he was caught on camera having a bowel movement.

Gives a whole new meaning to mudslinging, doesn't it?

Meanwhile, also just started reading Qanon: An Invitation To The Great Awakening, which I found at Half-Price Books and snapped up to keep it out of impressionable hands. This is a grand tome of Crazy, the kind of thing you usually see written out and photocopied and pinned to telephone poles between band flyers and lost cat posters. We're now in the 'Q and Donald Trump are sending us secret messages on TV!' part, which is just sad. "CAN THIS BE A COINCIDENCE?" No. It can be you making connections that don't exist. And I've just started. The scariest part? Like I said, this is a second-hand book. The previous owner went through and HIGHLIGHTED PASSAGES. Oh, wow...

With the exception of marriage equality and DEI programs, the bulk of the things targeted for defunding or removal in the Project 2025 guide were instated by or during Republican administrations.

I'm just waiting for Melania's response. Barron might have something to say, soon, too.

I'm looking foward to Ivanka and Jared's "Under the bus" moment, however...

That family is in a traffic situation, that's going to lead to a bus-crash... And there will be a "bowel movement" involved...

No one wants to see Donnie's dump. Except Donnie.

But these people aren't Republicans (or republicans either), they are fundamentalist Christians who want to impose a theocratic regime composed entirely of the "right kind of people", meaning white protestants.

The simple fact that it's in direct violation of the Constitution is exactly why they want to elect someone dumb enough to appoint anyone they want in return for a little ass kissing. If they get enough congressional and judicial appointments, the constitution can be ignored with impunity. In some places, and I mean you, Louisiana, it already is.

Not just ANY protestants. Episcopalians need not apply, for example...

Sputnika’s girlfriend called her and told us what the Dems were doing to get Biden ready for the debate. She drinks the Fox kool aid, and they are spreading that Joe is being given drugs to keep him awake and alert. It’s as if they are resigned to the trumpanzee slipping up tomorrow. I’m hoping Biden scores all the points tomorrow.

Meanwhile the shitgibbon's zookeepers are desperately trying to sober him up enough to see the teleprompter and avoid shitting his pants.

That’s his problem. No notes, no crib sheets, no teleprompter, no breaks where his team coaches him, just a hour and a half of unhinged trumpy. Also, mic only active when it’s your time to speak. This will be a show.

I'd like to have the popcorn concession for this one.

I'm thinking that his "debate prep" consists entirely of composing lists of reasons that the debate was rigged against him to be loudly proclaimed at every campaign rally following. Technically, he's already started that.
