PA governor Josh Shapiro was our attorney general in 2020. I'm not worried about any electoral shenanigans here. Naturally, there still is a towering list of things I AM worried about, so it's good to have one less

None of the swing states succeeded in getting the state government to endorse an alternate slate in 2020. (Efforts were made in Georgia and Arizona but key officials maintained integrity.)
But we cannot extrapolate that outcome to 2024. Many Republicans with integrity have been replaced with MAGA Stop-the-Steal goons. Several Republicans who were initially aghast at the J6 Insurrection, are now strongly endorsing Trump and his Stolen-Election rhetoric. The Election will be VERY close. Even a single state that rejects ballot counts to certify an alternate elector slate may easily be enough to swing the Election. Litigation would toss the decision to the House or to SCOTUS. |

I think we safely can. Both Georgia and Arizona have indicted those who choose to cheat the voters with such a scam.
But yep, it’s scary how many trumpanzees now have their noses up old 34/45’s ass. Truly scary. |

At some point the blind, unreasonable hatred between tribes will have to be addressed. Many (like that certain troll) believe it will take a civil war; I believe the majority of our population do not want that. For me, the irrational desire of so-called patriots pledging allegiance to Russia before accepting compromises is dangerous and needs addressing first.

I’m wondering about why or if I’m suppose to give a shit about Hunter Biden’s current legal troubles? Honestly, I couldn’t care less, yet the press and the Repugs are treating it like it’s another celebrity murder trial. Does anyone care if he’s a drug addict? To me, the press needs to get a hobby.
Oh, and I could care less about the results. My 2 cents. |

Of course gopers are drooling over Hunter's trial. They know their Fox-y Friends will spend every episode detailing and analyzing it, and reminding their dimwitted audience that THIS IS BIDEN'S SON, so it equals OR TRUMPS whatever the ex-prez did or did not do.

Looks like the secret service can’t avoid serving a little jail time, one way or the other. From google.
The United States Secret Service provides 24/7 protection for the wives and kids of the U.S. president and vice president, including their adult children, and the Trump offspring have been no exception. Looks like Hunter and hopefully Donald might have company. |

ETA: Although Wiki has 'modern usage' wrong. It's most commonly used, not to describe people whose accurate predictions are not believed, but to describe people like the (non-)troll in question, who just believe that they are always accurate in their predictions of doom that are ignored. They are almost all deluding themselves about their accuracy, but everyone else knows that the only predictions they make that are worth a damn are ones everyone else can also see coming. The ones they ignore, they ignore because he's no more likely to be right about it than they are, and so just as worthless as their own predictions. I can't let this bit of idiocy go, unaddressed. The SCOTUS has NO constitutional role in deciding elections. Contrary to popular belief, the SCOTUS did NOT 'decide' the 2000 election with Bush v. Gore. They were not asked to decide the election. What actually happened is that the count said Bush won (barely). Gore got 1 or more (I can't be arsed to look up the details) automatic recounts, by Florida law, because it was as close as it was. Then he had a number of optional recounts, which option he exercised, and lost. When those didn't go his way, he brought it to the Florida courts to ask for more. They were granted (arguably, in violation of Florida election laws, but whatever). He lost those, then asked for more recounts. The Florida top court eventually said 'No. We've already given you more recounts than the law requires, or allows for.' THEN he brought it to the SC. The decision was NOT 'Bush will be president', it was, rather, 'No. We are not going to over-rule the Florida courts.' The dissents were more politically motivated legal bullshit than the majority decision. Effectively, it made Bush II president, yes, but they were not tasked with deciding the election, they were only tasked with deciding whether or not to overrule a state court on a constitutionally purely state matter, and declined to do so. They did NOT 'decide' that election. They were never tasked with that decision. The recounts Gore wrangled out of the Florida courts decided that. Anyone who says otherwise is a fucking moron, spouting partisan bullshit. Take that opinion as you will about my opinion of you, if you're spewing that bullshit. Helpful hint. That opinion isn't good, but it's well deserved. Contempt would be a rather mild term. Last edited by C2H5OH; 8th June 2024 at 04:38 PM. |

Okay, the rules for the upcoming POTUS debate are agreed to.
“Biden and Trump campaigns agreed to mic muting, podiums among rules for upcoming CNN debate” The muted mic is wonderful. The trumpanzee can’t shut up when the other is talking. The trumpanzee can’t stay on script even with notes, lord knows what will happen now without notes. As mush as looking at him sours my stomach, I’m going to watch this one. The mic muting, that’s going to result in comedy gold. |

I know there's no turning of the MAGAnuts, but lately there have been reports of political and religious conservatives jumping off the Trumperville Trolley following his felony convictions. It's unclear if it means they'll vote for Biden or just sit out this election cycle. I'll be happy with the latter.

Former White House communications director Alyssa Farah Griffin said in a Friday interview with Mediaite that former President Trump talked about executing people multiple times at White House meetings. Keeping him under control must be a full time job. |

Recently wandered into the Trump-Biden poop wars.
As we all know, Trump has a reputation for soiling himself literally as well as figuratively. The famous photo of him walking around a golf green with a brown smear on the seat of his white trousers is fake, but there are many stories from people in a position to know about Trump's habitual sour smell, frequent flatulence, and adult diapers. None of these have been definitely confirmed as true, but they can't be wholly dismissed either. The Trumpers, stung, have begun to fight back by concocting and spreading rumors about Biden. One story, subsequently debunked, claimed Biden pooped his pants at the Vatican and his meeting with the Pope had to be delayed until he could run to his hotel and clean up. Another story involved a photo taken of Biden lowering himself into a chair; they cropped out the chair and claimed he was caught on camera having a bowel movement. Gives a whole new meaning to mudslinging, doesn't it? Meanwhile, also just started reading Qanon: An Invitation To The Great Awakening, which I found at Half-Price Books and snapped up to keep it out of impressionable hands. This is a grand tome of Crazy, the kind of thing you usually see written out and photocopied and pinned to telephone poles between band flyers and lost cat posters. We're now in the 'Q and Donald Trump are sending us secret messages on TV!' part, which is just sad. "CAN THIS BE A COINCIDENCE?" No. It can be you making connections that don't exist. And I've just started. The scariest part? Like I said, this is a second-hand book. The previous owner went through and HIGHLIGHTED PASSAGES. Oh, wow... |
