Thanks for your thoughts. But I'm pretty sure that I got the same reaction (or worse) when I did advocate a course of action about other issues.

In this case, as in a lot of things, I'm more interested in the why and not so much in the what. If the reasons are consistent, then how it's implemented is less important to me. I don't really have an agenda in regards to Boxing/banning trolls. It all depends on the why.

Example 1: If you decide that the reason you're Boxing trolls is because of trust, then it's inconsistent that you have the policies you have about giving legal/medical advice, socks, etc. Because those aren't things that add a lot of trust.

Example 2: If you decide that Boxing trolls is important because everyone wants everyone else to agree with them and they want a place to go where everyone agrees with them, then that's inconsistent with this place being somewhere where people can air their feelings pretty openly.

Example 3: If you decide that you'll be Boxing people on a random basis because the mod/mins feel like it, then calling them trolls is inconsistent since that could pretty much happen to anyone. And asking people to change their posting style for a random action doesn't make sense.

Example 4: If you decide that you won't be Boxing trolls, then there will probably be people complaining about them.

As to those choices (and there may be others but no one has suggested them yet), I have a slight preference for example 4 since I think that everyone posting just like each other can be boring at times.

But I've posted at places where disagreement wasn't allowed much and it's possible, so I'm not completely against it. But my feeling is that it would have to be stated clearly that's what the policy is. Then if people overstep that policy, they know where they stand. It hasn't seemed to me that most of the people who have voiced an opinion have wanted to go in that direction.
