The Fastest Food
In the interest of making life less crappy, especially for dinner when you don't want takeaway but can't be arsed making any real effort..
What's your Fastest Recipe that doesn't contain simmer sauces or any obvious cheats? (eg. you actually have to cook most of it.) Mine is Bacon Pasta (bacon, of course bacon) 1 onion 4 rashers of god food, or bacon if thats what you want to call it 1 tin 'rosella' brand condensed tomato soup (may work with other brands, haven't tried it) 1/2 tspn dried mixed herbs angel hair pasta salt and pepper to taste stinky cheese to taste Method: 1) Get the water for the pasta heating 2) Dice bacon a bit chunky and start it cooking on high heat 3) When you've got this done dice up yer onions 4) As soon as the bacon gets a bit of colour, turn the heat down enough so that when you add the onions they don't go exploding crispy and add pasta to the water 5) Add onions and cook until they go mostly soft/ translucent 6) Add tomato soup, herbs and salt/pepper to taste 7) Simmer for 2 minutes while draining pasta, plate it and serve with cheese. Easy, and with a bit of practice 5 minutes total to make. Added bonus, most kids seem to love it. |

Make some toast, put some pizza sauce on it and cover with cheese. Then stick it under a broiler until the cheese melts. All said and done it takes less then 10 minutes to make and it's quite good.

Toast one side of a piece of bread under the griller. Actually, make that 4 slices, because people will begin congregating in your area in a minute...
Lightly butter other side. Top with sliced Tasty cheese (sliced thin-ish; we want it to melt), then sliced garlic mettwurst. Spread Rosella chutney (it may work with the others; no promises) over the top of the mettwurst. Put under griller again and melt the cheese. Distract the crowd with the 3 extra slices - while they're fighting over the crumbs sneak out with your slice. |

One packet of 90-second rice.
Heat until hot. Pour into a bowl. Pour on soy sauce, citrus juice (lime/lemon) and/or rice vinegar, bit of sesame oil. Toss in microwave for another 20 seconds for a top-up. Crack an egg onto the hot rice, stir in. Tasty. |

3/4 bowl of hot water, add chicken-flavoured stock powder (I like Vegeta), throw in some tinned corn, nuke until hot again. Stir in fresh-cracked egg - voila! Pauper's Chinese-style soup. I used to go that route quite a bit while I was dieting - it's practically everything-free while still being surprisingly tasty. You will notice that I'm not prepared to go low-salt in this life. I'll suffer through low-cal where necessary, and low-sugar, and even low-cholesterol if I really, really must...but you'll never keep me from salt! |

Grab 1 largish bowl
Dump in a mix of your favorite frozen veggies Add 1 cup water Nuke for 8 to 10 minutes, stirring once at half time. Drain Add 1 goodly tablespoon butter Salt & pepper to taste Chow --------------------- Nuke up veggies as above Take 1 package Bottom Ramen, nuke up per directions Drain Ramen, add buttered veggies Demolish --------------------- This one takes a bit longer but the prep time is down around zero so I still call it easy. Fire up oven Bake 1 large potato for 20 minutes Throw in 1 frozen pot pie, bake another 40 minutes or whatever it says on the package Haul out of oven, smoosh & butter spud. Dump pot pie upside down over smooshed spud. Beat back ravening hordes as best you can while devouring. --------------------- 1 pint strawberry yogurt 2 handfuls raisins 2 handfuls raw almonds Mix well, chomp |

1) Stand in front of fridge.
2) Open it. 3) Rub nipples which have become suddenly erect. 4) Locate cheese (of any variety). 5) Eat cheese. 6) Rest head on the toughened glass shelf and weep softly into the soft chill of the refrigerator while questioning why there are two empty bottles of oak-aged Chardonnay on the counter. 7) Smack own face in recrimination, reflecting on how difficult it is to actually hurt yourself in this way. Weep again at the futility. 8) Take a potato and prick it. Laugh at the word 'prick'. 9) Put the potato in the microwave and set timer for "Full Power, 30 hours" 10) Wake up an hour later to the smell of burning potato and the cat food your nose is resting in. 11) Acknowledge the cat who is sitting next to the bowl, looking at you. 12) Retrieve Bactine and apply to claw scratches in face. 13) Vomit a steaming geyser of cheese and pork over the kitchen floor. 14) Realise there's only 3 hours left before you're due to be in work. 15) Salvage burnt cinder from microwave and apply shitty low-cholesterol spread to it. 15) Stuff carbonised potato into your dry, cracked lips with a serving spoon, since this is the only clean silverware. 16) Don un-ironed shirt and yesterday's suit over urine-and-Canesten-stained underwear. 17) Bon appetit. |

Loose meat sandwiches.
Saute chopped onion in skillet, add ground beef, a little tomato sauce and your seasonings of choice: Mexican, Italian or American (that would be salt and pepper). Serve on hamburger buns with pickles. |

Fire up the stove, dump water in pot, throw in a box of Zatarain's jumbalaya mix. Take it out of the box first though.
Fry up some chopped italian sausage. And whatever else you want in there like maybe onion and/or bell pepper. Guzzle beer til timer goes off. Mix sausage with rice, grub up. |

I just made this and I think it's pretty good, but can be improved.
Bacon Fried Rice 4 strips of bacon (2 or 3 would work fine, 4 is just what I had). Veggies (I used carrots, celery, and a little red onion) Rice (I cooked 1/2 cup) Garlic powder crushed red pepper cheese (I used swiss, but I think mozzarella would work better.) Start your rice cooking and chop up the bacon. Get the bacon sizzling and chop up your veggies. When the bacon is nearly done, add the veggies to that pan and fry them for a few minutes. Then add the cooked rice, some garlic powder, some crushed red pepper flakes, and some grated swiss to the pan. Mix it up and let it fry just a bit, then eat it up. Makes enough for about 2 people. |

My dad used to call this "Risotto". It's tomato rice
![]() Chop up: Bacon Onions Mushrooms (or open a tin of champignons) Melt butter in a big saucepan Fry bacon, onions and mushrooms in aforementioned saucepan. Toss in a couple of handfuls of any rice you've got. Fry in the bacony butter until slightly translucent, then toss in a can of diced tomatoes. Top up the pan with water, stir to make sure nothing's stuck on the bottom, clamp on the lid and turn the heat down to about a medium simmer. Occasionally go back and stir it to make sure it's not sticking. Cook until all the liquid is evaporated and the rice is tender. Not the fastest meal, but almost no effort and quite tasty. |

Boil Penne pasta, when almost done throw in frozen veggies (beans/carrots combo), drain, smother in garlic butter, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Enjoy.
(Any left over meat, you may have should be used to top this dish, cold from fridge is fine, salt and pepper to taste.) |

A knock-off no-meat version of Pasta Carbonara. It's main punch is garlic so if you don't like it, or intend to breathe on anyone in the next few hours, this isn't for you.
Toss a handful of pasta into well-salted boiling water. (I prefer angel hair spaghetti but hell, use what you have and like). While that's cooking, barely warm a few tablespoons of butter in the microwave. When it's soft, stir in a few cloves of crushed garlic, some salt, a hefty sprinkle of dried tarragon (or thyme) and dried red pepper flakes. When it's all mooshed together stir in a beaten egg and as much freshly grated parmesan as you can. If the mixture is too stiff you can drizzle in some good olive oil and thereby possibly cram a little more parmesan in there. When the pasta's done, drain it and quickly toss it with the garlicky egg/cheese/etc. mixture. The heat from the pasta will cook the egg, melt the cheese and butter and make the whole shebang into yummy goodness. It isn't low calorie but it is fast. And tasty. |

Dinner in under two minutes? Omelets are your friends. The following is for one person.
Oh, one more thing, it's best to use a smallish skillet, about 7" seems right. Mine is bit bit smaller, but I find that those are harder to come by if you want a quality skillet. Base 3 eggs 1 tbsp water salt and pepper. Heat the skillet with some (not virgin) olive oil and butter (not margarine, butter, I said) While the skillet is getting hot, shake or whip eggs, water and spice to an even batter. I use a shaker, since I'm not a purist, but U guess a whisker might make for a fluffier treat. Watch the skillet, when the butter is no longer making frying sound and is about to turn dark brown, pour in eggs and lower temp to a simmer. I put a lid on top, since it cooks quicker that way. If you cant flip it (it's easier with the smaller pan), then just fold it and serve. A cool beer guess well with this, as do some sliced tomatoes. The omelet can be varied in as many ways you can imagine. One way is to fry some other stuff first, like sliced mushrooms and crushed garlic. Another way is to add topping after pouring in the eggs. I do that when I make blue cheese omelet, since obviously putting the cheese in first would be very stupid. Also, for any omelet with cheese topping, don't flip it, just fold. |

I cooked the rice with some lemon juice, salt, and garlic powder in the water. I used three slices of bacon this time (but I think I'll only use two next time), and I used mozzarella instead of swiss. Added a little more salt along with the garlic powder and crushed red pepper flakes near the end. |

Tortellinis, sausage, some bacon. Cook, put in bowl. Grate a handful of parm reg over the top. Brown garlic & shallot slivers in olive oil, pour them & the hot oil over the top of the cheese, melting it down into the mess. Toss in a half cup of dry white wine, stir it all together. Eat it.

Fucking Carrots (aka crudites)
1 Carrot 1 stick of celery 1 chunk of cucumber Chop the above into dippable pieces. Add any other fruits or veggies you wish (pineapple is good). Serve with a supermarket tub of the dip of your choice. My personal preference is cheese & chive dip and some humus mixed with Nando's hot sauce. Eat. Healthy, tasty, quick, no cooking, can be eaten whilst lying on the couch watching a DVD. |
