I'm getting my hair did tomorrow!

But I gave the stylist free rein, so I have no idea what it's going to look like.

I have a friend who is a stylist. I've been thinking about springing for a professional hair cut lately (I've gotten maybe 3 pro cuts in the past 8 years) so we got to talking at the bar this weekend. I told him 3 things that I wanted from my hair cut:

1) I have super-thick curly hair, so it has to be thinned.
2) I want to keep most of the length, since it's taken so damn long for it to grow out.
3) I want it edgier, for lack of a better word. Long, curly hair is generally soft and romantic and feminine, and that's not me at all. So, edginess is important.

I also told him I have no attachment to my hair whatsoever, so he could do whatever the hell he wanted. He had an idea, but he said he couldn't quite describe it without it sounding strange. So, I am walking in to a hair appointment tomorrow with absolutely no idea what will happen.

Oddly, I am slightly nervous. I think it's more worrying that I won't like it and will offend him than actually giving a shit what's going to happen to my hair. I have hats, it's cool.

I have hair very much like yours. I wanted to make a change a few months ago, so I got a bob haircut, which took off 6 inches. I also bought a flat iron and some straightening balm. I love it. It takes me about 5 minutes to style it.

That reminds me, I should get my hair cut this weekend. Of course, I just go into the business district of my one-horse town and go to Pete's Barbershop.

It's a manly experience.

My wife claims that a woman changes her hair and/or make during major life changes such as ending or beginning a significant relationship, changing jobs or advancements, etc.

Anything you'd like to share with the class?

I just finished my thesis and stuff, and I promised myself I'd get a hair cut when I did (it's soooo hot and gross with all this hair).

This is a planned cut, though. When I feel the need to express my angst or heartache or whatnot, I just grab the scissors and do it myself. But yeah, I sure do cut my hair during major transitions.

I had a bartender tell me the same thing.

"Nice haircut. What's fucked up in your life?"

Heh, I've changed my hair 4 or 5 times in the last few months. I dumped my boyfriend a while back and made all kinds of other changes so I guess I fit in with this.

I chopped off my hair and went back to my super-short college 'do the day after I made my 70-pound Weight Watchers goal. I guess that counts as a major event.

You know what, NinetyWt, I am pretty fancy.

(Please ignore the water spots on the mirror.)

He cut a ton of really short layers, but kept the overall length for the most part. He seriously cut off about 2/3 of my hair. It's insane, I feel like something's missing, my hair's not so heavy anymore.

You know, I mostly pulled it into a pony tail or stuffed it into a hat, so I'm not finding any pics in the last year or so that actually show what my hair looked like.

I'm sorry, I can't see you in those pics. It must be those MASSIVELY HUMONGOUS WATER SPOTS ON THE MIRROR!

But your hair is seriously cute. Someday I'll cut mine off (we have the same kind of hair, just different colors), too.

Hey, I love it! I get mine cut like that sometimes too. It's fun to scrunch up the top and make it all bouncy.

Miss Fancy, that should be your new nick.

These are the after.

Just think for a sec, that's me with 2/3 of my hair gone (width-wise, not length-wise) and then tell me again you want my hair.

You were (and are) freaking adorable. (have you ever noticed that 99% of haircuts are designed to ADD volume? If you start out with too much, what to do?)

It looks great! Add me to the list of jealous people with straight hair who envy your pretty ringlets. Is it easy to do every morning? It looks wonderful I think you should stick with this stylist.
