Wish me luck

Mrs H and I are chaperoning about 30 7th and 8th graders for a 3 day science club trip. Her best friend is the teacher that heads this thing up and conned us into going. And our kid is one of the 30.

People shouldn't take advantage of you and ask you to do something 2 months out. Now that it's here, I REALLY don't want to go.

I'm trying to score some lortabs.

Whoa! 30 kids?!

I'll wish you luck, but you may need more than that.

Good luck, and good on you for advancing their passion for science education. Or for getting out of their regular class work for a day.

Good luck. I agree with Solfy's point, and hopefully the kids'll get something out of it... beyond just a field trip.

I could have fun with a trip like that, with a group of kids that wanted to go and have fun with the science itself (and it's promising that it's a science club trip, not just a general school trip). In fact, my wife and I are discussing rolling together a Brownie troop for my daughter. That's 5 kids though, not 30. That might strain the fun even with kids that all wanted to learn science.

Maybe you could make an arrangement to divide the kids by the number of chaperons, and you only concern yourself with that subset.

Odds are at least a few of the kids will not only enjoy but remember what they see. With any luck those tiny little sparks of knowledge will someday fan into a veritable blaze of passion for science and you'll know...

Ahem.

Actually, it's a very good thing that you have the pharmaceutical angle scoped out. Resist the obvious temptation to carry a flask. Slugging back a dose of liquid headache remedy would only make you feel better in the short term. Or possibly hold it in reserve for serious emergencies.

Gad, Doyle, you are one brave man.

That flask will be empty by Day One.

Hie thee to the nearest drive-thru liquor store and buy a half-gallon of Canadian Club.* Remember to imbibe wisely (like when no one is around).

Just don't allow them to experiment on each other.

Too much.

I'm in charge of the eight boys. Most are science nerds, but the two that might give me trouble are friends of our family and their parents would have no problems with me knocking the shit out of them.

If you're looking for a little variety, Jaeger in a Coke bottle works as well.

Drug the children with a chemical cosh for the 3 days is my answer. That way they won't cause you any trouble.
