No explanation necessary; I wasn't castigating you for using those gas stations! There's only 2 near me, thank goodness, so I can avoid them with ease.
It's dark in the mornings when I arise now. I'm mostly ok with that, except that I am still so tired from everything that's going on. I am going to bed earlier and earlier to try to catch up. |

I went out to potty the dogs this morning exactly 15 seconds before the rain started!! kind of cool, I knew it was supposed to rain, went out and thought no rain yet and then heard the drops hitting the leaves. had just enough time to think, wait, why is it raining up in the trees and not down here on the ground and suddenly it's RAINING!
![]() and if you think it isn't that big a deal let me just point out all the local news stations are leading with the story: water is falling from the sky! ![]() |

I have gestational diabetes.

You will likely have to purchase a glucometer to track your blood sugar levels. And watching your diet is a very good thing to do while pregnant, regardless.
Hope it's simple and not too severe. I'm tired. It's been a long week at work and we're not done yet. I AM making progress, though. So, it's good. I have heard from HWMNBN'ed as well. That was nice. He's a nice guy. ![]() |

That's not fun, CJ, but with any luck you can keep it under wraps with diet--and let's face it, most of us would probably benefit from a gestational diabetes diet anyway, right?
I'm tired out--doing some pretty physical work yesterday and today but thankfully it's pretty much done, hooray. Agnes had to go to the mechanic because that misfire turned into a complete no go on cylinder one and the plug was jammed in there and likely cross threaded. People who can't screw things in correctly and who don't use plug goo should not be allowed near cars. ![]() BFF is coming over for our usual Thursday evening Grey's Anatomy date and I have a pan of Death Chicken cooking and smelling incredibly good. Feels awesome to be sitting down! |

![]() I haven't posted in a while, but I've been reading along, and I've been smiling or sending good thoughts as appropriate. ![]() I had a very productive summer, but it was busy, busy, busy. Mr. Duck and I made a lot of progress with our project home, and in early September, two of our friends from British Columbia visited us in Nova Scotia and stayed there for two weeks. They loved it! What's more, is that they loved it so much that they talked to a Realtor and looked at a house just a mile away from our project house... and earlier this week, they made an offer on it and had their offer accepted! Mr. Duck and I really didn't see that coming, but it turns out that "his" employer told him that he could continue to work from the other side of the country, and "she" wanted to quit her job to do something else anyway. So, huh. He is going to move here before the end of 2015, while she will stay in BC for as long as it takes to sell their house. In other news, I've been doing well with my little photo-art business. Besides making and selling cards, I've branched out into doing "photo art" portraits of people's homes and businesses, and the orders keep coming, so that's good. Summer here was gloriously sunny and warm, and summer has just turned abruptly into autumn. And I'm enjoying the change in the weather, and I'm enjoying the change in my projects. Over the next few months, at our project home, Mr. Duck and I will install new flooring and will paint ever interior wall and ceiling. (This past season we worked mostly outside.) Then, our vacation rental should be ready for the public. ![]() |

CJ, I'm sorry to hear about the GD and I hope the diet keeps it under control.
Duckie, it sounds like you're doing really well and I'm glad to see it! I just got done making my shuttle van reservations for the airport. I will be picked up at 2:00 freakin' am in the morning. Bleh. I'm kind of regretting making my flight so early, but on the other hand, I'll be arriving at my destination at a decent hour. I am heading off to Little Rock, AR on Sunday and will be there for a week. I will be staying in a barracks building at an Army National Guard camp. No rental car; so in the little free time I have while there, I am stuck going out with a group on a bus, or staying in my room. Doesn't that just sound fan-freakin'-tastic? Yeah, I didn't think so either. Hopefully, the training will be beneficial and I really get something from it. This is only part one of the training; I have to go one or two more times this coming winter. I'm off today; but I'll be busy. I have an appointment to get my hair cut and colored (so overdue), I need to go the mall, the bank, and the grocery store. When I get home, it'll be time to cook dinner, and then I need to finish a project for work since I didn't have a computer yesterday. I had to give it up for a scan to receive a letter of networthiness. It took all damn day so I couldn't get any work done. |
|
||||
Nah, it's all about saving money. We are flying in from all over the world for this training. Lodging at this place is "free", so there aren't hotel bills.
Back in the day, we'd go to San Antonio or San Diego for the training. Those days are long gone. |

CJ, I'm sorry about the gestational diabetes. I hope it can be diet controlled.
Hubby took the car & girl to work today, so I worked on cleaning up the den after the big room move. Her room is good now; hubby is still arranging the new office. I took all the bags and boxes, organized them, and swept and mopped and cleaned. It's still a big pile of stuff, but it's in one organized place at least. |

Caught up with chores today--with a vengeance. Did a crapload of laundry (including my nice new Nepalese arty rainbowy hippie hoodie that is not only right up my alley but the site I got it from donates food to rescue animals when you buy their cool shit, score!) and went shopping for dog food (crunchy AND gooshy both out!) and kitty gushyfud so they don't have to figure out I'm made of meat. Made it out of Costco at just over a hunnert bucks, but there were these incredibly cute monster foot squashy slippers in TO's size--unfortunately, Princess now has feets too big for kiddie stuff, which is kinda sad. They're all growing up MUCH too fast.
Still have to make my bed--I decided to transition over to a warmer comforter and a more fall appropriate duvet cover and sheets. I like these little seasonal rituals. ![]() Oh, and Agnes is giving a little trouble, guy got the jammed plugs out and the new coil pack in and she starts but is running really rough--he's going to throw her on a timing light because sometimes a really good misfire can cause a small engine to jump timing. If necessary I'll just go ahead and do the timing belt and water pump to make sure it's done right and then I won't have to think about it for another 100K miles. ![]() |

I grouted both floors tonight. I'm tired, achey, and I have a new blister on my palm. Floors look awesome though.
Next up: tile the shower. The waterproofing is passing its 24hr leak test as I type. OTOH, if I do paint and trim next, I can put the toilet and sink in sooner. Still dreaming about bathrooms at night. Had a great day at work. Next week will be crazy because I'm in a training class all week but have two high priority, short deadline items to handle simultaneously. Will have to clone myself. |
|
||||
Agnes is home, no major difficulties aside from a jogged loose idle cable that caused her to rev too high but we got that squared away and she's all fine. There were four different kinds of spark plug in there and they were all pretty grimy, not to mention no plug goop used. Has plug goop now, and nice new wires and coil pack and is running like a little top. Still has the check engine light but I'll take her out for a few drive cycles to see if it clears and if not I'll get someone with OBD II to clear it out for me. Hooray Agnes!

It's overcast and cool today. After I get brainstart I'm going to clean up a section of the living room that has gotten too messy and then I'm going to work on building the replacement rail for the front porch. The existing one is rotting out. The replacement is being made with treated lumber. I'm going to have to leave the top rail long and do some cut to fit, it has to blend into turned uprights.

I probably should take a tiling break. I dreamed of tiles all last night. I get a discount on company paint, but the lab doesn't make production quantities. You can sometimes get leftovers at the development plant one tpike exit over, but it's a mix of random stuff and only suitable for projects that don't matter. My current car is my "grown up car". It's the biggest I've had, and I'm very happy with it. The Altima was the White Chocolate Space Egg. The Mazda 5 never got a name. My fist ride was Mr. Car. |

My husband's Fusion is named Rosie, it only took a couple of days to realize that. One, the headrests are shaped very similarly to the head of the robot maid on the Jetsons. It was our first time with features like the sync system and onboard navigation and heated seats and such, and we felt like we were living in the future where pleasant robot maids exist. And, she's red. QED.
OTOH, my rig has never had a name. |

I am doing laundry and packing for my trip. I'll need to shower soon and head off to the grocery store as well as a shoe store to buy some new flats. I forgot to buy those yesterday.
![]() I did get my hair done, run to the bank, and picked up two new pair of pumps, plus 3 pair of slacks, a new top and two cardigan/boyfriend type sweaters. Although temps are supposed to be in the 80s, I'm sure the AC will be cranked to arctic zone and I don't want to freeze my ass off in the classrooms. I still really don't want to go. I've set my alarm to go off at 12:00 and then 12:15 this morning so I can shower, pack my toiletries and wait for the shuttle van. I hope to everything that I don't sleep through my alarms and miss my shuttle and flight. |

I'm not too worried about booze. I'm sure I'll head out to dinner at least once and have a couple of drinks.
Groceries have been purchased for my husband and son and put away. In just a bit, I'll start dinner and it should be enough for them to have leftovers tomorrow too. I need to toss my jeans in the wash so I can wear them when I leave tomorrow morning. I have three pair of jeans; one pair that I hate and never wear, and two other pair. One pair are longs, so I can wear boots with a heel, and the other pair are average length so I can wear flats. I plan to wear flats tomorrow (well, they're Sketcher slip on shoes), but they're flat anyway. I think I'll hit the hay at nine; and wake up around midnight so I can shower, make myself presentable, and pack the toiletries. I need to remember to take my phone and phone charger too. |

Plan A was a non-starter. We can't get the vanity upstairs. It's a beast at 60" long with two sinks and a marble top. We thought we could unfasten the top and take it up separate from the base, but it's glued on all the way around.
Plan B is to rent an electric stairclimbing dolly and take both the vanity and the tub up at the same time. We could get family to help us haul, but this way seems much safer for everyone/everything. First I want to repaint the tub feet. (It's in the basement) |

![]() Hope you have a good trip taters! My husband went out and got me a whole bunch of healthy snacks. Cheese and whole wheat crackers, melon and cottage cheese, stuff like that. He googled "healthy snacks for gestational diabetes". He's a keeper that one. ![]() |

So I got the drill holes marked on the top and bottom rails. (I need to drill 94 holes in the rails.) I cut the verticals to length and need to mark them for 94 holes. Then I need to drill all 188 holes. After that, actually putting the thing together is just putting the screws in. And yes, I'm using the drill with the funny star bit to do it. (I got coated deck screws suitable for treated lumber that use the funny star shaped bit.) And I wore a good quality face mask with filters as I was cutting the treated wood, the stuff they put it in is nasty shit.

Bah! I tried running myself ragged today so I could fall asleep about now, but I am WIDE AWAKE! I need to take a shower in four hours and get ready to leave and I CANNOT fall asleep. I don't want to take any sleep aids because I'm afraid I'll sleep through the alarm if I do.
Sigh, maybe I can catch some ZZZZZZs on the plane. I just may be tired enough to actually sleep on the flight. |
