Obamacare

I was listening to On Point and it was a very interesting program about how how differently it will be working (or not) depending on where you live.

from the LA Times

As President Obama's healthcare law rolls out next month, even supporters acknowledge there will be problems. But Americans who live in states backing the Affordable Care Act will receive substantial protections and assistance unavailable to residents in states still fighting the 2010 law. That could mean confusion and higher insurance premiums for millions of consumers in states resisting the law.

Leaders in these resistant states have not set up consumer hot lines. Several state insurance regulators are refusing to make sure health plans offer new protections required by the law, such as guaranteed coverage for people who are ill. In response to the law, Florida suspended its authority to review how much insurance companies charge consumers.

Oregon, I am happy to say, is one of the smart states.

People in Texas, on the other hand, are mostly not going to hear about the healthcare coverage for which they are eligible.

The law is flawed. After all, every law is flawed. It is a darn shame the GOP will not let us fix the problems.

Still this is a huge advance. Repealing it will soon be impossible.

If you go to Healthcare and follow directions, you will get asked for your state of residence.
If yours is one of the few which are fully implementing the law, you will be directed to that state's site.
For those SOL enough to live in a Red state, you get the message "You will shop here, at the Federal site".

So far, it appears that Red state'ers will be able to buy insurance through the program. The question remains if they will be eligible for subsidies available in Blue states.

How long it will take the morons in TX and FL to elect persons with IQ's above room temperature (Celsius) is open to conjecture.

repealing it is already impossible

in red states people will have to be reached by national ads, perhaps, with the 800 number besides the web address.

Yah I'm in, occasionally we're dumbasses, Virginia. So for reasons that could only make sense to the insane we turned down a bunch of free money in regards to the Affordable Care Act. Way to boner it up Virginia.

As long as there is the web, the Red State'rs will have stories to tell of a sister who saved $300/mo by switching to ACA, the news will routinely refer to any premium changes - and when the Red State see the actual numbers, all those smug GOP assholes who are proud to have voted to "permanently de-fund Obamacare, and save the American Peolpe from the horrors of Federal meddling in Healthcare"* are going to find new jobs.

* - yes, really - I looked up the Tulsa newspaper's quotes from their Representatives. I stopped reading after the 3rd asshole made the same canned statement. Apparently, there were 2 more to hear from. Yes, the paper was ever-so-proud of their 5 little morons.
