For those who Woot!

Woot-off is currently in progress.

I'm curious - anyone here ever manage to nab a BoC? I've gotten thisclose to actually getting my order through... but have never made it to the final screen.

What tools do you use to follow a Woot-off? I use mywoot.net. It's supposed to alleviate the load on Woot's servers.

I got a Bag of Crap once. It was appropriately named.

Actually, the bag itself was quite nice, and I use it every so often. But the stuff inside was all garbage. If I recall correctly, it was a bunch of rinky-dink iPod accessories like a miniature speaker set and what we took to calling iCondoms (rubber covers). They were all tossed as we don't have any iPods.
There are rumors of people getting 52" LCD televisions in their BoC, but I think chances like that are few and far between. That said, I will still go for one if I had the chance.

While I follow the woot off, I usually just have a second window open on my second monitor which I refresh occasionally. I guess I'm working their servers too much, but I found that the alert sites weren't kept up to date, and I missed a couple of fast moving items that I would have liked.

Oooh, they have a Kai Shun Mandolin Professional Slicer up there right now...wish I could justify paying $200 for that puppy. Alas, I have a decent (but not as cool) mandolin, and as we just bought a house, cash is tight right now. (ah well, no regrets, the next item up already).

wring, Woot.com is an online store and community that focuses on selling cool stuff cheap. Every day they put up a new item, and only sell that item for the day, or until they sell out. One Deal, One Day. You can get some pretty good deals there, for instance I bought a refurbished Dyson vacuum cleaner for about $150 less than retail. But they also sell some silly things. Shipping is always $5, no matter how many or how big/small the item is.

Right now they are having a "woot off", which I think they use to clean out their warehouse. As soon as one thing is gone, they put up another.
The Bag of Crap (BoC) is a grab bag. You pay $3, and you get a bag with random items in it. Sometimes the items are good and useful, sometimes not so much. But for $3, I'm willing to take chances. The BoC is hard to get, as lots of people are willing to take chances.

'cause until this thread, all I knew about "woot" was it was the noise that Arsenio Hall made when he thrust his fist up in the air.

I don't get out much.

No worries, wring: you're not alone. I had no idea what Dazzling was talking about in the OP until I followed the link. I *think* I've heard of this, but dunno.

I made it to the final screen but it was sold out by the time I got there, so I couldn't get it.

Hey, most times I have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm lucky to make a coherent post!

Badtz, that sucks.

BTW, there was a previous thread on this topic... I didn't think to link to it in the OP: Wherein the 'Raffe discuss the Woot!

I think this is the fastest moving Woot-off I have ever seen. Either that, or they are selling a lot of things that they only have a few of. There's already been two Roombas today.

I agree - this one is moving at a smart pace. I fully expected the Roombas to sit like bricks... they usually do. I get so sick of seeing Roombas.

I asked about Woot here when I found out about it a few weeks ago, and I have managed to remember to check it almost every day. I still haven't found anything I've wanted, but it's still pretty fun. Does anyone know how long this Woot-off will last, or is part of the appeal the mystery of it?

It's part of the appeal. It could last a day or two. I've seen them last nearly 3 days, but I think that's probably rare.
