Jerry Giraffe!
Jerry Giraffe has spent a month with me in Nova Scotia. He brought a friend with him, Meziadin the Moose, and the two of them have had a marvelous time.
![]() (By the way, Meziadin is named after a tiny place in northern BC, near where I used to live, and which had more moose per kilometre than any other place I've been. Pronunciation is meh-zee-ADD-in.) So, I had to introduce Jerry to Caesars. (Meziadin had had 'em before.) He loved them! But then, what's NOT to love? Clamato juice, vodka, Worcestershire, and hot sauce for the win! Even virgin Caesars pack a punch! (Jerry ended up preferring them.) ![]() They also shared a donair! And what is a donair, you ask? A donair consists of spiced ground beef, tomatoes and onions, served on Lebanese flatbread along with dollops of "sweet sauce" (made with condensed milk, vinegar, sugar, and garlic). The whole soggy thing is then wrapped up in foil. Jerry felt the need to wear a bib, smart boy. ![]() More photos will follow! ![]() |

One day we went to Cape Sable Island. It's the southernmost part of Nova Scotia, and if you were to said due west of it you'd land further south than Bar Harbor, Maine, and even further south than Portland, Maine.
It was a cold day on the beach. Jerry and Meziadin tried to take shelter in this old, washed-up lobster trap, but it didn't offer much protection. ![]() Speaking of lobster traps, we visited a "lobster trap Christmas tree" that the Cape Islanders haven't gotten around to taking down yet. ![]() By that time we were all thoroughly chilly, so we decided to do the rest of our sightseeing from inside the car. ![]() |

We visited a wind farm! There are quite a few of them in Nova Scotia, with many more proposed (and always hotly debated). This farm, in a place called Pubnico, was developed by two buddies on a "beer-fueled whim", and it seems to be successful. Well, mostly successful. One of the turbines caught fire a couple of years ago and a blade fell off, but other than that...
![]() Here's Jerry playing around on one of Mr. Duck's old toys. He didn't want to sit on the seat. Would you? ![]() I mean, it was REALLY COLD while Jerry was here! Even the ocean was frozen! I eventually made Jerry a hat. (Meziadin's used to snow and ice.) ![]() We found one other way to stay warm, too. ![]() |

This photo needs an explanation.
One of our big trees came down in Hurricane Dorian a couple of years ago, and its big root ball left a sort of cave in its wake. I was going to "do something" about it, but then a gnome moved in. He really took over! He even built a runway on top of his cave-dome...on which he parks his DC-3. But I digress. Anyhoo, Mr. Baubles, the gnome, invited Jerry in for a spot of tea. I've never been invited in. Oh well. ![]() Here are Jerry and Meziadin enjoying some alone time together. ![]() Here's Jerry watching the sunrise. ![]() And lastly, as already shared on Miss Raffe's thread, here are Jerry and Meziadin, nestled amongst some sustenance (there's maple syrup underneath them for drinking), ready for their trip to visit Jim Nightshade in The Netherlands! (According to Canada Post, it will take one to two months for them to get there.) Bon voyage, bon voyage! I miss them already. ![]() ![]() |

Thanks for the nice comments, all! Sunny Daze and Jim, I missed yours the first time around (because it took me too long to compose my response to Smartie, lol).
