Lost 3-25

I didn't see a Lost thread, so I decided to start one.

I can't believe Sayid did it. While I've been privately goading him on, I can't see how the future can exist as it is. Unless perhaps Ben isn't really dead.

I'm crossing my fingers, hoping A) that really was Ben Linus, and B) he really is dead as a doornail. I don't care how badly they deal with the time-travel ramifications.

And color me surprised that Jack is really going to sit around quietly and let Sawyer stay in control. I'm not used to seeing him not flip out.

Oh, and also: what happened in the first 15 minutes? I forgot I get ABC on Central time instead of Mountain.

The first 15 minutes we see flashbacks of Sayid and how he got back to the Island. I'm sure someone can fill you in much better than me. If no one shows up I'll try my best tomorrow. What scene did you come in on?

Was there actually blood on Ben's body? I don't remember seeing a good clean shot. Hell at first I thought he had missed completely. I don't think Ben is dead.

I saw no blood either. I'm wondering if the kid had on a bullet-proof vest or something.

Eh, I have seen enough people get shot on this island and come back to life to not think he is really dead. Still a great moment, though!

I don't remember - how old was Ben when he killed all the Dharmas? Maybe Sayid will end up being the person who put all that in motion somehow, by escaping with little Ben.

I also wonder how Ethan ends up being saved from Dharma death, or how old he is when he gets taken by the Hostiles, or what happened there.

Interesting that Sayid did not return to the island by choice...I always assumed they all changed their minds somehow and wanted to come back, but he apparently did not. I am sure Ben was the one who hired the girl to get him on the plane, though.

My thought exactly. It would be very Ben-like to have considered the possibility & worn a vest, wouldn't it?

I THINK that happened in the early 90s.. But at this point, my time frames are all mixed up, so I could very easily be wrong.

Ben was an adult when the Others killed the Darhmas. It was when he was in the VW with his dad- possibly on Ben's birthday.

I also seem to recall Ben saying to Locke that the island once saved his life.

I'm in the camp that Ben isn't dead, and that the island will work it's magic and heal him in someway. And we'll find out that part of his master plan was to torture Sayid by making him kill others to protect his friends, and then find out he was actually only killing people for Ben's revenge.

Remember when Ben gets back to the island and immediately removes his sling? For some reason, the island heals certain people (like Ben and Locke) and maybe even brings others back to life (like Christian, and maybe Locke).

It's going to be a long week. I find myself hoping that adult Ben is the one to find young Ben's body. Probably too much to hope for.

I took it when Ben removed his sling that it was there to make it look like he was more hurt then he was. You know, a con.

Hurley sitting down with Jack and Kate for a very uncomfortable meal of waffles. Actually, I saw part of a scene right before that, but can't remember any details except that it involved Sawyer and Sayid.

That was my thought too.

The other thought I had (and there's no way this will happen, 'cause it would be impossible to explain on TV) is that it'd be cool if Ben's consciousness ended up in L'il Ben's body. So one of the reasons Ben is such an incredible manipulator is because from his point of view, he's done it before. So there'd be like a P shaped time loop.

L'il Ben is shot-Big Ben's goes back in time from the O6 return flight and ends up in L'il Ben's body. He grows up, trying to change his fate--to no avail. Eventually he returns with the O6 knowing that the only way he can avoid having his existance erased is to go back in time (again) to L'il Ben's body.

It's a creepy scenario--Groundhog Day spread over 25 years.

I hadn't thought of that. There are certainly ongoing themes about cons and con men and women throughout this series, and it's always interesting to see how they all play out over time and impact each other.

We saw Sayid as a little boy killing a chicken when his brother couldn't bring himself to do it, and then his father was praising him and belittling his brother.Sayid's father then told Sayid's brother at least one of them would be a man. I can't remember what other order all of last nights scenes were in. Did you see Ben telling Sayid "mission accomplished" ? Anyone with a better memory feel free to jump in.

The more I think about it, the more I think Ben is alive, and that Sayid shooting him causes him not to trust anyone. This causes him to be the manipulative little bastard that he turns into. He can only trust himself. If anyone you ever reached out to for help screwed you, you would start holding all your cards to your vest.

Except he was already a manipulative little bastard, who (from Dharma's POV) was providing aid and comfort to an enemy during wartime.

How much was manipulation, and how much was a little boy trying to get away from the father that hated him? True he develops no conscience, but could that be because everyone eventually betrays or belittles him at Dharma? Oh course I don't care the reason Sayid still should have walked over after shooting him, and plugged him one more time in the head for good measure.
