Trump channels Nixon -- countdown to resignation
Salon is reporting that the Trump presidency is obsessed with finding leakers. Those of you who remember the Nixon days will remember the Plumbers Unit. I realize that there won't be one-on-one equivalencies between the Nixon White House and the Trump WH, but there will be similarities. Things will happen faster now, I think, because of social media, but I think they'll follow similar paths. We've already had one acting AG fired; Sessions may actually grow a conscience and end up on the chopping block. The top intelligence officer is out, Trump's equivalents of the Dobermans are calling the shots, people want to know what did Trump know and when did he know it? A GOP-controlled House is queasy about investigating but the GOP-controlled Senate doesn't seem to be. The president's mental health is being questioned.
We don't yet have a Watergate-type scandal but that may just be a matter of time, and instead of a couple of intrepid reporters busting open the story we have the entire Washington press corps struggling to keep up just with reporting the blatant wrongdoing. The turds are swirling the toilet bowl -- it will be interesting to watch it all disappear down the hole, and see whom/what it takes with it. |

I'm hoping the crazy shitstorm brings the Pubbies a little closer to center. They've lost control of their party, sold their souls to the devil thinking that at least they could get some of their agenda through. With any luck, he and his posse will screw up badly enough that both chambers will turn over in two years.

The problem is that 'Facts' and 'Reality' are now open to question; I'm terrified that the Red and Blue States are Geographically clumped together.
The part that occupies North Dakota wins. It's fucking awesome that everyone there is given Due Process and is not subject to abuse. |

I strongly suspect that the turdfest will last at least several more years because most Republican congress critters are attempting to stay invisible or, when pinned down, burbling weak defenses. They finally win both houses and the presidency, just to have the president end up a narcissistic loose cannon. Pity, that, but overall they've displayed less spine than the average octopus.
For those who think this is unduly harsh, try a little mental exercise: just picture the uproar if Hillary Clinton had pulled even the tiniest fraction of what Asshole and his merry clown car rodeo have done. Shit, they melted down and held umpteen hearings and investigations over Benghazi and her stupid email server. But the lack of outrage over Asshole's downright incompetence and sleaze is notably lacking. And so there will be much foot dragging and pious restraint until the whole crapfest explodes. The truly frightening thing is how many devoted Trumpists still think he's doing just great, based on nothing more than a lot of made-for-TV hokum. I did so enjoy little Miller's impression of a particularly weak-chested SS officer on the Sunday news shows though. Comedy gold, especially when he informed the masses, via the corrupt media, that the president's power was not to be questioned. Yeah, that's gonna work out just great. He was playing directly to Trump, of course, who predictably loved it. Too bad it pretty much just promoted mockery in every one else. It's gonna get a lot uglier and even more surreal before it's over. And Trump will never resign because his ego won't allow that. He'll drag the country through a full impeachment, complete with mustering his unlovely "base" via Twitter the whole way, hoping to start the cleansing war that Bannon thinks is so necessary. |

He could simply declare that the rest of us are not worthy of his governance, that stupid people are constantly blocking his obviously brilliant leadership, and so he has better things to do -- and certainly more profitable things to do -- than be dragged through the mud by this lot. "So long, folks, I tried, but you're too dumb for me to govern."
Side thought: It looks like Trump set Pence up as a stooge. I wonder if Pence will stand for that, or step out and leave Trump hanging? |

They could, and perhaps will, but you already know their responses will not amount to a horse turd covered with bluebottle flies. They and their clueless, self-absorbed ilk are the reason we are in this mess.

And the Mango Mussolini reverts to type. The White House is in chaos, his appointees are dropping like flies, credible accusations of Russian influence are swirling...so he's gonna throw a rally!. Get out yer red MAGA gimme caps 'cause the faithful are gathering in FL again. The distinct lack of applause after not-quite three weeks in office has obviously taken a toll on the Narcissist In Chief. Then no doubt he'll stop in for a refreshing weekend at his pay-to-play Fl White House to bask and maybe hold some more classified discussions in open air.
A person couldn't make up this shit. |

Trump is foolish enough to say things to the military a President should never say, because he doesn't understand anything but his own hubris.
So lets not take America's first military coup off the table just yet. |

Well McConnell said last year, “once the political season is under way, and it is, action on a Supreme Court nomination must be put off until after the election campaign is over.”
So that means if Trump is holding a campaign event, we don't have to vote on his Supreme Court nominee. Let's do that a watch him become even more unhinged. |

Trump has been surrounded by Yes-Men all his life so it is no surprising that he goes crazy when confronted by anyone who doesn't pucker-up and kiss his arse.
