It's scary, I know. There's only one store in town where I know there are few customers and all employees wear masks, and that's the little town pharmacy. I had to go there to pick up a prescription. Right before I left, my MIL called, extremely confused and having a bad dementia day. She hasn't left the house since January, coupled with dementia, and well, I went over there and spent the better part of the morning calming her down. Then I got her ready and masked her up, and the two of us browsed the tacky little knick knacks while we waited for my meds. Gotta say, she seemed much more lucid on the ride home.
I hope she enjoyed it because I wasn't comfortable, even though we were all masked. The woman is 87 years old. Plus, I've been sick all winter. Still, without human contact is life worth it? |

Just made a mortgage payment, it's due on the 15th, once that clears, we owe $6917.85 on this house...holy shit...Mrs. White and I have raised our three boys here, it's an awesome house, we got a 30 year mortgage initially in 1999, we refinanced to a 15 year in 2007, and after that we always paid a little more principal, it sucked when the boys were home, we always felt as if we were mortgage poor, but, damn, light at the end of the tunnel...and I get to be

THE COVID KID IS BACK IN THE HOUSE!!! Oldest son called on Thursday, said he was getting a third COVID-19 test on Friday, the first was positive, six weeks ago (? I've totally lost track of time), tested negative three weeks later, it was a 'rapid' test where he would know in hours, if negative, he wanted to come up for the week as he can WFH on our wifi, he's negative, so this morning he drove up...needs a haircut, LOL, and since the MDANG has been conducting virtual drills (he's a geospatial intelligence imagery analyst} for the last three months, he's got quite the beard going, it's so good to have him home for the week...

Excellent news, Oxi !!
Our first Sunday back at our traditional restaurant for breakfast (Big Boy). Not a lot of people there, I have my new "duck protocols" in operation (instead of me spotting a kid and approaching the table w/a duck, the server lets the table know that the Duck Lady is in the House, and if they want a duck, the server will bring it back or they can approach my table - where I have a larger rubber duck sitting out, duck comes complete w/a wipe). So, while we were there, there were only 2 tables w/kids at 'em, but both were happy to get ducks. ![]() (on another note, ![]() |

Wow, wring, people are awesome, that was the proper response...if you are not presenting symptoms and have not been around anyone with symptoms in the last 5 - 8 days, the chances you will transmit COVID-19 on a rubber duck are pretty small...she was just jealous, she secretly wanted a rubber duck... |

I persuaded my sweetie to go to the park at the Leonardtown Wharf to enjoy this gorgeous day. It's a small but very nice venue - a little boardwalk, a dock for those who want to come by boat, a kayak rental place, a playground, and lots of picnic tables.
We walked around a little, then sat at a table for a little while. It was pretty crowded - probably because of the lovely weather and some serious cabin fever. I'd go there during the week with a picnic lunch - Roxy will love the playground. Note to self. ![]() |

I saw my Orthopod today for the 6-month checkup on my knee replacement. According to him I am "crushing it". He was so impressed that he is letting me skip the 9-month checkup and just come in at the one year mark.
So yay |

Thanks. But on the down side, I no longer have a good excuse for not getting out and taking care of a million* honey-do's in the yard every weekend.
Not that I'm complaining about a lack of pain. *I exaggerate. There's probably no more than a few hundred thousand. |

If you call sitting on my ass eating Triscuits good work, then you're 100% correct!
Truly, all credit to the surgeon. Yes I did my PT like a good little soldier, but I can't claim to have done a whole lot else other than just try to maintain a normal level of activity. No exercises, no daily walks of any consequence, just behaving like a person with a normal knee and a predilection for air conditioning. On the other hand, in the past 3 weeks I have cut down, cut up, hauled off and burned more than half a ton of large branches from mesquite, bois d'arc and hackberry trees. And I cut them with a manual pole pruner at that. I only used my chain saw on one especially large hackberry branch after it was on the ground. I would have been able to do that before my surgery, but it would have taken longer and hurt a lot more. So I am being active-ish and I'm sure that plays into my recovery. |

Congratulations to
Marlo Thomcat has been spayed! Barb said her AST came down about 150 points and the original whacked out blood test was probably due to some kind of assault on her system, possibly either gastritis from the day before or a muscle strain or small tear from rough-housing with Rocky. So YAY! to finally getting this little girl some comfort, and getting me some relief from living with a cat in heat. If you'd like the horrible flip-side to the good news, the rest of today's story can be found in the unJustified Jacked Up June Junk thread. |

I can finally be rid of this gut-tube I've been eating through. The Dr who has control of that said, yesterday, "OK, we'll contact IR [Interventional Radiology - you really don't want to be in a position to get to know all those medical initialisms, and actually understand what they mean] and have 'em schedule you." With this Corona-Shit the schedule might be a couple months down the line, but I'm now approved to finally get rid of this hateful thing. I've been strongly tempted to take scissors to it and rip it out, myself. But that "Wouldn't be prudent".

FTR, IR digs around in your guts, with an active x-ray machine showing them what they're digging into. And they have shitloads of sharp things to stick you with, even if they miss the target. Oh, well, Let's try again, shall we? They stuck a gut-tube into my stomach, and they also stuck an IV port into my jugular vein. They'll stick you in any direction. And they will all ENJOY sticking you. I really can't complain too much, though. They kept me alive, after all.

When I asked my doctor about removing my G tube. He felt around the area where it goes in. Then grabbed the tube and jerked it out. Plop! Felt like a hornet sting right in the gut.

I have become addicted to and dearly love iced milk tea with those big tapioca pearls (boba). The problem is that most places that sell this stuff don't open until noon, and I'm not about to drink a pint of tea in the afternoon and be kept awake all night.
So I googled up how to make them on my own. Then I got onto Amazon and ordered some fast-cooking boba pearls and some of those plastic straws wide enough to suck up the garbanzo-sized pearls. Yesterday and today I've made myself Assam black milk tea with pearls. I take it to my desk, close the door and sit and drink it slowly, chewing up the nice gelatinous pearls. At 7:30 in the morning, yay! Time enough for the caffeine to wear off. Pro tip: brown sugar is the best for black milk tea. I have some palm/coconut sugar which is brown and nutty and it's way better than the white sugar I used on day one. |
