No, huh? Well, I had a hoot and a half, and perhaps I'll let y'all in on it once various statutes of limitation have expired. I'm aware that self-answering is poor form, but so is leaving a moot query in play, so here we are.
PBM, planning on paying attention to Thursday night's CNN presidential debate? (Don't make me self-answer twice in a row on Friday, FFS.) Thursday, 9:00 PM EDT, 6:00 PM PDT, 01:00 Friday UTC for anyone who needs to calculate their own time. |

I'd say either a museum or a recycling center. And then get you an Nvidia Grace GPU featuring 40 petaflops of FP4 processing power from 416 billion transistors, which can support billion-parameter LLM inference workloads while also reducing energy consumption, for only $40,000.
PBM, Have you about had it with the acronyms? |
#5837
Did you have to ask? I'd be delighted to return to the 20th century on several grounds. I think that century had fewer acronyms along with various other virtues. The 26^3 set allows over 17,000 possibilities if my tedious counting is correct.
But I'm afraid that 17,000 is not enough acronyms for present needs. I commonly get 3 or 4 hits and have to skim to see which one is indicated. 4-Letter Acronyms? Throw malarkey like this at me and I really will join the Insurrection. I've been charged with exaggeration before, so I did n experiment after I wrote the above: I picked 'TMO' in part because I'd never heard of such (and part because it had occurred to me a few minutes ago: "Too Much Outrage"? "Too Much Obfuscation"?). I quickly found that the NYSE symbol for TMO dominated the hits. Once I added '-Fisher' to the Search, I got these results just on the first page. TMO * Thermo Fisher stock symbol * The Michaels Organization * The Metropolitan Organization of Houston * Training Management Office (under army.mil) * Merriam-Webster: TMO? Meaning: telegraph money order. * The TMO-2 load cell signal conditioner is a standalone bench top ... * T-Mobile International AG, a German telecommunication company * TMO Tackle Tungsten Weights are the preferred weight of choice for anglers worldwide. * Technology Management Optimization * Transaction (or Transformation) Management Office * Traffic Management Office ETA/Nitpick: I overlooked " TMO " Official Music Video - | Ayaan Zubair | Aria Mody | Madhur Dhir which I'd opened in another tab. I dunno. I think he's already in dementia -- he's forgotten how to use a mic -- but people in that state often hang on for a long time.
I think Vance will wait two years from the inauguration to try to Article 25 him. I guess. MLB has made some changes I dislike, especially putting in the Designated Hitter rule so I'm not as into it as I used to be.
What is a rule change in sports that you would like to see? |
#5850
Blood sports. Change NFL football rules so the goal is to injure or kill your opponents in the process of getting your TD. Get rid of all that protective equipment. And have gladiatorial games during the half-time show.
I'm sure MLB can come up with something to do with pitchers being allowed to bean the batter in the head, and the batter retaliates with the bat. NHL is already there with the fights and all. Figure Skating and Gymnastics might be a little harder to come up with 'blood sport' rules, but I'm sure they could come up with something if they tried. Shooting sports could use condemned criminals as live targets, but we might have to make jaywalking a capital crime to get enough targets. PBM: Any sports I'm missing? What rules would need to be modified? |
